I think Vogel is top 5 as well. I have Vogel, Pops, Spo, Doc, Thibs (no order after Pops #1).
I think the only real adjustment he made early was deciding that Battier had no shot versus David West. After that, he just took too long for stuff that everyone else could see, imo.

He stuck with guys who couldnt shoot too long. He didnt double the post till game 7. He went with LeBron 1-1 versus George/Stephenson, but not in the post, where Indy had to double and then Miami could swing the ball. He went 1-1 with them on the outside and Indy could play straight up and clog the paint.

I just dont think he does anything without LeBron. You need superstars to win, and I get that. But LeBron is a whole other level of star. Spo had one of the top 3 players in the game for 2 years and was a 3rd place finisher and 1st round exit. He then inherited a superteam and they got him to the final where Carlise ran circles around him after a quick start. Again, without LeBron, does he even come close to being mentioned here? And with LeBron, how many other coaches are going for a 3-peat right now and not having a conversation among many on if Indy/healthy Bulls/Spurs take them down?

Read the link I posted, and google Eric Spoelstra X's and O's. He's one of the best in the game, maybe 2nd behind Pop.

Like actually read it Ironman, don't disregard it. And since I deleted my post you quoted, here's the link again for everyone else.

It's a good article highlighting reasons why to give him more credit.....but it's all part of coaching. He's doing a good job and he has improved and appears to be putting in the time and effort.....but my stance remains that he needs to win it all this year to move up IMO. I would imagine that blogger for NBA.com is talented enough to do a similar blog heralding any NBA coach like he did Spol.

In X's and O's yes, but that's only part of coaching.

Have to take your basketball posts with a grain of salt due to the whole, you know, Harden thing.

Fine by me, I just wanted to show you where I was coming from, so we didn't have the typical OC argument "you're an idiot" "no you're an idiot".

Actually you were fine with the Harden thing. You said you'd reserve judgment til after the season. I guess I was (wrongly) including you in the group with the people who said I was crazy.

FWIW I think Harden is top 20 and have most all of the season.....but enjoyed the silly arguments surrounding it the first few days and then the "Top 26" posts that eventually followed.

Yeah I mean I only thought that back then because of the eye test + advanced metrics. It's hard to have arguments with people (trust me, this is not just limited to the OC) who refuse to acknowledge the power of advanced metrics.

Back to the Heat/Spurs though....

Does anyone feel confident the Heat can come back and win?

Great insight chief. I'm willing to bet you haven't noticed the adjustment Spo has made with Bosh so far.

Please fill me in oh wise resident NBA guru. Spill the knowledge you learned reading an article or watchin a pregame show that you will now play off as if you've been taking notes.

Spoel is an average coach with perhaps the best passing superstar there has ever been running the show. I mean shit he made Mike Brown look like a great coach.

In terms of ability and what he brings to the court he long surpassed Magic.

Spo adjusted to SA playing completely off Bosh at the 3 point line by bringing Bosh to around 18 feet and having the plays that run through him to do so from there, leading to more open perimeter space.

Sorry HB that god forbid someone knows more about something than you, because I didn't read that anywhere, I saw it with my own eyes. Clearly went over your head.
