Oh yeah. It was probably a 10 minute interview that ended after they lowballed the shit out of Tito on salary. But now they can claim they tried.

Sandy has a decent reputation in MLB too, so even if a half assed job opens up he may be the favorite there and can go to a better situation. They seem to think that Toronto may not let Boston talk to their manager (Farrell), which could put Sandy on a short list in Boston since he interviewed for it last year.

I actually think they would overpay for Francona (in Dolan speak that means market rates) so that they can use him as the poster child for the fans that they do care and that we are the problem.

I can just hear Dibiasio and Antonetti telling everyone to back off and that the Dolan's are so committed to winning they hired a 2 time world series winner with a track record of success.

Paying him $3-5 Million a year to them is preferrable to signing a $10+ million dollar player as it gives them their talking point without costing what a decent player would.

In typical Dolan fashion it is an attempt to buy credibility on the cheap.

I don't think Sandy is going to get the job, although I think he makes more sense than Francona given the way it is with this club.

Having Terry Francona manage this team is like having a $50,000 vehicle restoration done to an old Chevy Cavalier. It makes absolutely no sense given what we are working with.

Good hire. They don't have anywhere close to enough talent to legitimately compete for a ring, but he'll at least keep things respectable.

That's what they are banking on fans saying.

Now when we have the meager payrolls and weak farm system Antonetti will be able to point at Francona as exhibit A of the Indians commitment to winning.

I just hope when Choo and Perez are traded this year that we get better returns on them than our last few trades.

Francona will help make them more respectable, but I worry that it nothing more than the Dolan's buying themselves cheap cover against the claims they are cheapskates and not committed to winning.

This was what Rick Sutcliffe said in an interview on ESPN Radio when he was first mentioned as a candidate

Francona worked for a team that was being cheap at the time (Philly late 90s), and he's worked for a big spender (Boston this last decade). One went very bad, one went very good, so obviously you know what he is going to want. There's NO WAY he puts up with extreme cheapness for long.

Years apparently the most important part of the deal to Francona. Probably looked at how long Shapiro allowed Eric Wedge to destroy the franchise and demanded to be given at least the same length of time.

I would not be surprised to see Alomar go to the Red Sox. Great hire...but it won't mean much if they don't get him some talent.

Awesome hire. But I dont see him changing much without an influx of talent AND guys realizing their potential (Santana, Chis, Kipnis a whole year, Masterson, etc).

The way kipnis looked at the beginning of the year it sure the hell looked like it. He hit a wall ill admit I was wrong but as his first full year he did pretty well. I expect him to put it all together next year

Which was my entire point..BP has done this over and over again..Kipnis, while very good, needs to prove it before we crown him better than Phillips, one of the best 2nd basemen in the MLB.

Agreed but he's still young. We saw what he can do now he just has to do it over the entire season. In the end I think he will be better than Phillips but time will tell

You continue to beat a point and have no basis for it. Kipnis was the better player going into the series we were discussing. We werent comparing the rest of the year or their careers. It was who had the advantage at each position.

The argument was who would you take...you're either a) a huge cleveland homer or b) an idiot if you'd take Kipnis over Phillips, even at that point in the season.

At the point in the season I would have taken kipnis easily. He was top 3-5 in every category except ba and was on pace to hit 290 with 35 hr and 100 plus rbis and 40 sb

LOL. No it wasnt. It literally started with a position by position breakdown, for THAT series. Phillips did not have better numbers going into the series.
