So they drop Michigan to pick up games in other geographic areas to extend their recruiting reach, and then pick up a game with Wisconsin? Makes perfect sense.

Notre Dame needs Michigan just as Michigan needs Notre Dame. So if you think ND doesn't need them, then Michigan doesn't need Notre Dame either.
They can both schedule a Home-and-Home with pretty much anyone.
They are both national brands.
And if you think Notre Dame doesn't need Michigan, think about this...
In 2007, when both teams were undefeated, their game still was getting national attention. Besides the '05 USC game, with the famous "Reggie Push," the USC-ND game has been nationally irrelevant. The only time anyone outside of the 2 schools cares about that game is when they're both good, which hasn't happened all that much recently.
You incorrectly think that everyone thinks of/puts Notre Dame on a pedestal.
You seem really butt hurt because I said something negative about Michigan.

Unless someone comes on here and says "The game was cancelled because Notre Dame wanted it to and Notre Dame does what it wants." You have a problem with it and conclude that the poster is butt hurt over a phantom reason.

It was Notre Dame's decision to end the rivalry.
No one will really know why it was done, but my guess is that an ACC opponent is easier to beat than a annual power like Michigan.
And LOL about comparing Boston College, a glorified Sun-Belt school playing in the ACC, to Michigan.

I like how I trolled the comments on ESPN.com.
I'm pretty sure I said "I saw someone say..." and even stated that they were someone else's words. The only thing that I "trolled" was Notre Dame dumping Michigan out of the 3 because it was the "hardest" of the 3 B1G games, and their schedule was going to be hard enough with the addition of the ACC Games.

Hmmm let's see if I have to pick keeping Stanford, Purdue (most years) or scUM on my schedule, which one should I choose? Wow this is so tough a decision... On one hand I've got the most winningest program in CFB history and on the other two teams that are more interested in producing Engineers than Linebackers? Which one will I choose? Gee this sooooo hard.

From the beginning of the ACC talk, ND said that Stanford wasn't going anywhere. That keeps them going out West every single year. So it came down to dropping 1 of the B1G teams.
As established, Purdue is very long standing and an in-state rival. They weren't going anywhere.
So it comes down to Michigan and Michigan State. You want me to believe that ND opted out of the tougher of the games? Right? But when you look at the last 16 meetings, ND is 7-9 against Michigan and 6-10 against Michigan State.
So if ND is trying to duck out of the more competitive game...wouldn't they have dropped Michigan State?

And as I've already said...historically ND has played Michigan State much more. And historically ND has taken 30+ year breaks from playing UM twice. So no matter which way you look at it...historically, or based on recent success...you're just flat out off base with your thoughts here.

With all due respect to Michigan (and I do have a ton of respect for their tradition and program), they haven't quite been what they used to be years ago. Things certainly appear to be on an upswing there but while they have not been as "down" as ND over the last 20 years......they haven't been that great either.
Over the last 20 years (1992-2011):
Michigan - 173-71-3 .700% 8.65 wins per year
Notre Dame - 151-91-2 .619% 7.55 wins per year
Michigan has definitely been better but again.....they haven't been that much better. The last 20 years haven't been very kind to either school. Bonus points to Michigan for a national championship and better bowl record than ND over the last two decades. Sadly, neither has been quite as successful as they used to be back in the day.
