They are away from their families, often in situations where both parents have to work. Their financial resources are obviously limited. Little or nothing left for investment. Any catastrophe can put them in dire straits. Much of the rest of Mitt Romney’s 47% are elderly or handicapped.

I really hope that the OP is joking. Dropping change into a toilet in order to teach the poor a lesson in hard work and humility is the most illogical thing I have ever heard.
Why stop there? Why not stab them in the spleen and see if they have the determination to find their way to a hospital before they bleed dry? This will teach them the important lesson that life is worth living.

Seems that lesson is taught ever day with shooting / stabbing crime in the poverty areas but it still happens and increasing also.
