I’m not sure but I think my furnace kick on sometime this morning I have it set at 65 …. Little early for that shit to begin… </SPAN>

Mine is set to off. I have to manually set AC/Heat. It doesn't just automagically kick on.

It's not a set temp at our house, but a how-long-can-we-go-this-year-without-turning-the-furnace-on mentality that controls it at our house. Thanksgiving '09 is our record to beat.

... goal is Thanksgiving ...

Question if I start a fire in the two fireplaces does that count or is that a gray area of heating the house? Note they are not woodburners

Has Belly ever studied how much heat is lost going up the chimney than actually being produced by the fire?
My dad use to say something like that, "lose more heat going up than it's worth."
I think it was just because he didn't like having a fire going.

Not cold enough yet for furnace but did toss some sweaters and sweatshirts in the wash.

I know that a fire place is not the most effect method of heating a home ... but it look dam comfortable and warm when you're sitting close with a glass of wine, an a IPad

Like others have said, when I find being cold is unbearable. I have no troubles bundling up a bit at home (sweats, t-shirt and a heavy robe) when slacking around, so I have been able to make it into December before turning up the heat (living in a small place that seems well-insulated helps). Last year, it was a good month or so earlier, though. The year overall was cooler than normal and it seemed to get cold earlier, too.

I don't know if our's has been on or not but if we are cold at all we will turn it on and will turn it up until we are not cold.

Same approach in the summer with regards to the air conditioner.

It's our home and it's where I want my family to feel the most comfortable of anywhere in the world.

I disagree. How much heat that is being lost is irrelevant when 1) It still gets the job done and 2) is cheaper than gas.
