Don't care what you guys think, but I'm more than excited for this movie. Favorite book of all time.

I have no idea if it is a good book or not. I tried to read it a half dozen times. Never read past page 8 due to lack of interest.

It's not an easy read. Worth the trouble though, imo.

My question: I've heard that Jackson wants to make this a trilogy. That was understandable with LotR, since that was three books. The Hobbit was one book. How the fuck is that going to be made into a trilogy? Is he including half the Silmarillion as background lore or something?

I was just reading about it and yes, it will be a trilogy. The Silmarillion's rights are owned by Tolkien's family so he won't be able to use that specifically, but will be using other parts of the lore to build out the story.

I, for one, can't wait.

I thought it was two movies. Didn't realize it was three.

It was going to be two but Jackson recently said he'll be doing three (one this winter, one next winter, and one summer 2014)

I can't wait for it. And I'm sure there will come a day when they stretch books out into too many movies (for the money as Ernest said) but so far they haven't so I'm in.

Anyone see it? Went with my wife last night. Didn't care for a lot if the Hollywoodization, but it was still very entertaining.

Saw it. Way too long. Give it a C+. If each movie in this trilogy is 3 hours, then I could read the book faster than 9 hours.

No, it was Smeegle. I loved LOTR, but I just don't know if I can tolerate more of Smeegle.

I enjoyed most of it. I thought the dinner scene near the beginning ran a little long but other than that I don't have any complaints. I didn't read the book so I will enjoy the new characters this trilogy brings to my attention.
