Cozy with a stiff back still....let him rest. Let Hanny rest....Let Rolen rest.
Good job Dusty....now watch us score 1 run in 11 innings or Homer gives up 7 runs in 3 inn.

After nearly 4 seasons, maybe a Stubbs plate approach change!!!!!! John Fay reports:
Stubbs sits, tries change his approach
[h=6]09/07/12 at 4:52pm by jfay[/h]Drew Stubbs was out of the lineup Friday. He’s been shelved — temporarily.
“I need Stubbs in center field,” Baker said. “He’s the center fielder. We’re giving him a couple of days to try to make some changes in his approach. Lack of ability is not the issue here. He has more ability than damn near anybody in the league.
“Let’s face, as much as they get on Stubbs, Stubbs is still one of the best center fielders in the league. That’s major part of your defense. We’ve just got to figure out a way to get him more productive offensively.
“As much as you hate to do it, like a parent some time, you’ve got to let them hit rock bottom. Then they’re open for any kind of suggestion.”
Stubbs has hit rock bottom. He’s 7-for-his-last-49 (.149) with 22 strikeouts. He hit .185 and struck out 42 times in 108 at-bats in August. His overall average is down to .199 versus right-handers.
Stubbs’ numbers have declined four straight years. His average has gone from .267 to .255 to .243 to .220.
But Baker, ever the loyalest, hasn’t given up on him.
“We’ll figure it,” Baker said. “We’ll help figure it out. Sometimes, you’ve got to figure it out things on your own. As cold as Stubbs has been — I don’t know how the heck he does it — he’s got 71 runs scored. And when he scores, we win. We’ve got to figure out a way for him to score some more. Then we’ll win some more.”
Baker pointed to a former Red as example of a player who suddenly got it.
“You don’t always figure it out when everyone wants you to figure it out,” Baker said. “Look at Edwin Encarnacion. He’s figured it out. It took him a couple of years, but he’s figured it out.”
Do you think the "new approach" will include more bunting?

No I do not. He has a gapper swing....unfortunately either his eyesight or ability to pick up the pitch isn't elite like most big leaguers.
As for his defense....it's just overrated to me. The one of the best in the league is good but the league CFs aren't great. How many CFs is he better than in the NL?....then mix in his production how many is he better than?
Just defensively he's not better than Bourn
McCutchen
Fowler
Figuring in his play on balls coming in and right over his head or right at the fence I don't feel he's overall better than Jay, Gomez, Ruggiano, Upton, Morgan, Maybin, Schaffer.
I don't even know who is CF for the Mets.....He's better than the CF for the Phillies, Nats, Dodgers, Cubs....but you want Stubbs or Kemp? Stubbs or Harper?
In the AL it's more loaded.....the flipping Royals have a backup Dyson that may be the best CF in baseball and they have Cain who is great...Crisp, Revere, Span, Jackson, Ellsbury, Trout, Jones, Upton, Davis....those guys to name a few are at least as good as Stubbs.
Stubbs is a touch better than Granderson and Hamilton....but ha ha.
Stubbs is good....and yes his arm is better than several I listed....but they are better coming in and around the wall. How many runs have been saved by Stubbs arm in the past month 1? 2? How many runs has he saved in the past 2 months...5?
How many times has he came up with RISP and failed the past two months? 40?
Stubbs with runners on base is 28/156 for a .185 avg with a .549 OPS
Heisey with runners on base is 43/134 for a .321 avg and .828 OPS

That whole conversation Dusty had with John Fay is exactly why Dusty drives me crazy. Stubbs scoring and the Reds winning has everything to do with Stubbs, right? Nobody else with a higher OBP wouldn't have scored more runs..

I don't understand why he went out there this inning. 117 pitches is too much this late in the season. Just my opinion though.

Yea, the interview was a f'n joke. Heisey has shown to be the better player, Dusty just needs to admit it and move on with Heisey in center.jordo212000;1264196 wrote:That whole conversation Dusty had with John Fay is exactly why Dusty drives me crazy. Heisey has 3 hits, but is only hitting .295. He needs a break.Ironman92;1264197 wrote:Heisey with a great catch Stubbs couldn't get and 2 hits including a triple and 2 runs scored.
