We won but I don't like bringing Rees in. Golsons confidence is now gone and now we gotta hear about how Rees should start and blah blah blah. Honestly it was a terrible decision by Kelly and I don't agree with it at all

Kelly said Golson got banged up on the fumble and couldn't grip the ball. That certainly changes things.

I'll take the win.

Go Irish

If that's the case then I'm ok with it. But if he could go and Kelly put Rees in that's when I have a huge problem. It looked like golson was pissed on the side line

Purdue has some big mfers on their d line. Running game was horrible.

No flow to the game at all. Ugly ugly win.

who all left the game and why?

KLM, Slaughter, Eifert, Golson, Day... Any others?

I think that covers it.

Apparently none of the injuries are series and should be back against msu. I can't wait to see wood back. I feel like he's going to run with a chip on his shoulder. Golic sucked today and could calabrees be suspended the whole year? He was awful. Fox wasn't much better either. I thought golson played great except that fumble but he should have never been put in that position. Either way it's a win and we gave a huge game next Saturday

It will be fun to see how he spins it and what excuses he makes.

To be fair, ND was favored by more than 2 touchdowns and Purdue is a perennial bottom-feeder B1G team.

Squeaking out a win against Purdue is nothing to hang your hat on. They should be embarrassed they didn't score more than 20.

The most frustrating thing about today's game is the lack of football knowledge within the fanbase.

Notre Dame started a RS Frosh QB in his second game, a backup RB who is a glorified WR (i.e. not a pass blocker), and a receiving corp made up of underachieving upperclassmen and athletic freshmen who don't know the plays.

So what does a smart DC do? He loads the box with eight--including an All-American DT--and prevents any running. You're a dumbass if you thought Notre Dame was going to gash this team. Purdue isn't Navy.

Purdue dared Golson to throw it, and he did fairly well. No running game and sloppy play (e.g. penalties) is a disaster. Throw in two CB's who shouldn't even be playing that position if Weis recruited CB well (and Kelly's guys stuck with the program), and it just wasn't going to be a blowout.

The only thing that surprised me is that Notre Dame didn't run off the edge more. They started to do so more in the second half, and that was nice to see. Purdue is a fundamentally sound defense, with a DC who hasn't been exposed with anything yet. They will win a lot of games if they are healthy.

I'm hoping that Golson looked pissed because he's a competitor and really wanted to be out there even though he was injured but Kelly acted in the best interest of the team and Golson's health. However, this post game quote from Kelly pretty much kills that....

"He had trouble gripping the ball, he probably still could have gone," said Kelly of Golson. "I just felt that Tommy could manage our two-minute, and he did a great job."

That pisses me off.

As well as those who overanalyze, or make excuses for, how they won...they came out victorious, they didn't look especially sharp doing it, but it's early in the season....next ;)

Another quote from Kelly...

"This is not going to be an excuse for Everett that he's pulled out because of an injury," Kelly said. "We also made the decision with the flow of the game that Tommy could come in there and manage our two-minute and he did a great job."

So, Tommy Rees will always be the "two-minute offense guy"? I know Kelly has a history of playing multiple QB's but come on. You're dealing with the psyche of a frosh QB here. A frosh QB who I think has the potential to be a very good college QB. I just think if the kid plays well enough that the game comes down to a final possession that you let him see it through. Let him finish the job. The first time this "relief pitcher" bullshit doesn't work...Kelly is gonna get hammered by the media and fans. I'm already not a fan of it.

Thought the same thing. Looked like all excuses to me. Michigan barely beat Air Force, and I sure as hell ain't making excuses. More like owning up to reality. :(

No excuses here either. Just not happy with how Kelly is handling the QB position.

Please stop being such god damn pussies about a quarterback's psyche. They are pussies; you shouldn't be one either. Golson will be fine. It's his second game.

"OOOOH MY GOD! MY COACH HATES ME!!!" ....didn't happen.
