I remember watching VH1's top 100 songs on the 90ssjmvsfscs08;1222940 wrote:

I just watched top 100 songs of the 2000s
#1 was Crazy in Love by Beyoncè.
That shows have drastically music changed. This picture shows it too, and it's sad. At 26, I'm starting to realize that the Cynic Asshole Syndrome that they made up on South Park is actually a real thing.

1. If you're using VH1 for anything related to a music critique, you have no right to be talking about music.bigkahuna;1224053 wrote:I remember watching VH1's top 100 songs on the 90s

2. Crazy in Love and Smells Like Teen (read: you're an idiot) Spirit cannot be compared. They are in different genres of music and are two completely different beasts.
3. The picture shows nothing. Bohemian Rhapsody is generally accepted as a great song in music history. Run the World didn't even make it above #29 in it's highest position on the weekly U.S. Billboard Hot 100 charts. It is not even generally accepted as a good song.

1. Wasn't saying VH1 held any actual merit, just using it to compare difference in music. Hell, look at music from 97-99 and then from 00-02. It's drastically different.GOONx19;1224149 wrote:1. 2. OMG, a typo. You're right I am an idiot. Going back to my first point. It's crazy to think about what was great in the early 90s and then 10 years later; drastically different for main stream. When was the last time you heard an actual band with actual instruments on a main stream radio station?
3. The picture shows exactly what I said about how drastically music has changed. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is a great song, and the picture says 1 writer and 1 producer with "sophisticated" lyrics. "Girls..." says the same line 2o times and has 4 writers/producers.
I'll restate my original thought, which is the fact that I didn't realize how lazy and shitty music has gotten in the last few years (I'm only 26). Which is why I said music today is just plain shitty compared to what I grew up with/ heard my parents listening too.
I'm not really sure why you decided to pick my post apart, but w/e. I was simply saying "Wow, I didn't realize how shitty the change of in music has been in my life time/ longer."

You could choose hundreds if songs from the 2000s that are better written than old songs if you look hard enough. In 40 years people will say stuff like, "I wish people would quit playing this crappy music and play some real music from my day like Skrillex", because that's the way it's always been, and that's the way it'll always be.

Perhaps, but it was only until recently (or somewhat recently) that our current "top artists" couldn't even begin to perform live. There has been an element of production in the recording process for many decades - in my generation back in the day R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People (widely perceived as one of the best albums of the 90's and extremely successful) album was heavily produced and mixed for radio (or would be for ITunes now), no doubt about that. But having attended their tour I can attest that even without the studio mixing they could perform very well live. There are few popular acts that can do that today.

Wrong. Absolutely wrong. Just because you listen to shit music today or hear shit music today doesn't mean that's all there is. There's just as much incredible music being made now as there has ever been.bigkahuna;1225416 wrote:1. Wasn't saying VH1 held any actual merit, just using it to compare difference in music.
