Damn, that took longer than I'd have thought. Thanks to someone being too derpy to actually quote correctly, making everything look all dumb and shit.

Guy with a meteorological background here. This thing is gonna be actually pretty bad for a Category 2. First of all it's a big hurricane, so the effects will be broad and felt for a long time. Also a large wind field creates a larger storm surge which will probably inundate wherever the bullseye will be with 10+' of water.
Secondly, it's gonna be slowly moving with an estimated 10-20" of rain across the Gulf Coast. Not only will there be a massive storm surge but the flooding will be incredible from a few feet of rain.
Also it'll be strengthening, not weakening as it approaches land, which should cause gusts to be higher than usual.
Bottomline is this, the overall pure destruction will not be nearly as bad as Katrina. That was a monster hurricane in size with 175 mph winds in the center that obliterated everything across the Gulf Coast and inland. The surge eventually buried NOLA and created the disaster and deathtoll we would later see. Still the flooding will be historic

Still a tropical storm as of the 10 a.m. advisory ...........much to the chagrin of the mainstream media who would like nothing more than to divert attention away from the RNC.

It hadn't been bad, but we all know how the political threads tend to go. That's why there is a forum for it, so the discussion itself is fine ... just in the forum dedicated to it.sleeper;1256200 wrote:lol seriously? The politics was just so out of control.
If someone came on here and got into a discussion about Big Red football, I'd do the same thing.

Right. But no one is going to go into the politics forum and start a thread about how the hurricane is being tied to GWB.O-Trap;1256202 wrote:It hadn't been bad, but we all know how the political threads tend to go. If enough people actually want to discuss it beyond 5 posts, they will. If not, they won't.sleeper;1256236 wrote:Right. But no one is going to go into the politics forum and start a thread about how the hurricane is being tied to GWB.
Simple as that. People are free to discuss it to their hearts' content. Just not on a thread where that is not the subject.

Gotcha, so a thread about the hurricane cannot discuss anything political that deals with the hurricane. Obvious power trip is obvious. :thumbdown:O-Trap;1256241 wrote:If enough people actually want to discuss it beyond 5 posts, they will. If not, they won't.

Actually, obvious not-want-to-deal-with-a-political-shit-fit-in-the-Serious-Business-forum is obvious not-want-to-deal-with-a-political-shit-fit-in-the-Serious-Business-forum.sleeper;1256253 wrote:Gotcha, so a thread about the hurricane cannot discuss anything political that deals with the hurricane. If you wanna talk about the hurricane, then Serious Business is fine. If you want to talk about the political connections to the hurricane, Politics is tailored for it.
How is that difficult?

I think it's less a matter of it being difficult than it is a matter of a certain someone realizing he's operating below quota on his daily number of threads he takes off-course to ramble about whatever topic he feels like talking about. But now, he can put this thread on that list, so you know....#sleeperwins and all that.O-Trap;1256272 wrote:Actually, obvious not-want-to-deal-with-a-political-shit-fit-in-the-Serious-Business-forum is obvious not-want-to-deal-with-a-political-shit-fit-in-the-Serious-Business-forum.

Correct; because when government agencies fail again (as they always do), it might get blamed on obama this time, and that is not allowed.sleeper;1256253 wrote:Gotcha, so a thread about the hurricane cannot discuss anything political that deals with the hurricane. Wow. Yeah, I'm the kind of guy who would protect the likes of our current president. I think my feelings on him have been expressed more than clearly.QuakerOats;1256278 wrote:Correct; because when government agencies fail again (as they always do), it might get blamed on obama this time, and that is not allowed.
I don't give a shit if it gets blamed on Adolf Hitler's political ideology. Politics stay in the political forum. If you want to discuss the political ramifications of a hurricane, knock yourself out ... in that forum.
No more here.
