RE pick6's post about the numbers from another small site.....
Thing is...a more local site may be able to garner some local sponsors a bit easier because they can sell it to the local businesses that the local people in the area will be logging on and it will get your business in front of the local eyes.
Whereas a site like this.......that isnt happening as much.
We have a local site, www.themaconline.com, that has a decent amount of sponors i guess, as I just look now there are 6-7 local businesses that are on the main page. It is an easier sell for space to the local places because they know local people who will be shopping in this area will see it.

^^ I agree. That's why I think it would be good for the OC to target Ohio-based smaller businesses like Homage, as I pointed out in another thread. This site's target audience is broad compared to the site's we are talking about. But, then again, JJ Huddle got sponsors didn't they?

Allow only one user name per person, attack the high school football scene as it will bring the most members to this site, and allow anything to go in the serious business/basement forums. The site worked in the beginning because people could say/do anything they wanted. If this site picks up, I have a feeling the members here will get more serious about the actual postings instead of just ripping ETB and Sleeper for being dumb. The lack of new members doesn't make the conversations easy to keep going because their aren't new opinions being offered. It's not a hard thing to see. Plus banning people like this doesn't work, IMO.

I agree with this, and will add that the HS forums are very well run. Even after the near collapse of JJ the HS forums were still somewhat active (more active than the other forums). With all the so called smart people on this site, why isn't someone helping to steer Justin in the right direction when it comes to marketing this site. We are not talking about trying to sell super bowl commercials for millions of dollars, how hard can it be to approach other companies that may be looking to reach 20-40 yr old males for a couple of dollars a month.

I'll answer this one. The smart people on this site are apathetic to an owner who refuses to install a proper moderating staff, eliminate the real trolls, and foster an environment that encourages discussion rather than send people to the basement for having a disagreement. Would you advocate for a site that stifles free speech and protects a small group of members(labeled the favorites)?
