How about not thinking that every new user is just some old member creating a new name?

Also I agree with Cher... if I had to wait for my username to be approved I wouldn't have ever posted lol.

Approving them before posting has to be labor intensive, but after the account is active and posting running a random IP check and eliminating duplicate user names might be possible.

Mikey McD and Cher are both people who have another account on this site. Guaranteed.

The problem is so bad that is hinders good discussion on a regular basis on the forum. People can't have a good discussion because they are too worried thinking a certain poster is another user, and rightfully so.

Not necessarily, but you have no means to prove it so you might as well just save the accusations.

It's a really old process. A few others around here are just as guilty of it as you. It makes posting a nuisance.

I agree, posting is a nuisance when you are having a conversation when 3 different usernames are the same person as well.

I don't have to save my accusations because they can easily be proven by a moderator.


Also: I dont have any specific problem with you, or anybody else posting on this thread, but this is a problem for the forum IMO

its probably a lot of work, but i think it would work. from what i came up with, the site gets about 14 new members each day.

and what does it take to register on this site? i just looked and saw it only takes a user name and password unless it asks for more on the next screen.

what about requiring an email account and sending a confirmation password to the email? or maybe asking for some basic information like a name or something? couldnt that help cut down on bots and reduce the amount of new members per day and make it easier for mods to approve possible real new members?

heck, the few times i have visited the basement, it seems like there are only 5 people having conversations with themselves.

i would even go as far as saying charge $1 for an account. atleast make a few bucks from all these extra accounts!

Better yet, use a service that maps out where users are. You can get a general idea where a user is posting from by looking up their IP address.

It's a myth that a large majority of users have multiple accounts. It seems like every time a new account is signed up, people automatically assume its me, dlazz, or gibby. None of these people are ever warned for their insinuation by God FORBID if you bring up Voldemort on these forums.

Wrong. This is my only username on this site. Thanks for playing. Also who gives a shit if someone is someone else. Also LOL if your worried about people having another username just have a discussion with whoever you are talking/agruing with. I mean what are you afraid of?
