It is way too early to know one way or another on this question, but some friends and I were talking about this upcoming college basketball season and somebody said that the 12-13 season would overall be an up year for college basketball and the teams will be better than 11-12. This led to a lot of back and forth friendly arguing but I wanted to see what the OC had to say about this. Not much to talk about right now so why not?

You can look at it a few different ways. Will the top teams be better or worse than last year? Will teams 16-25 be better or worse? A lot goes into it so just looking for thoughts.

I totally disagree. With the NBA lockout last year, the talent in the NCAA was at least a 5-year high. While not all of those guys dominated college ball, compare that to what the previous few NBA Draft classes did and you will see a difference.

Then again, while you can argue that NBA success is not relevant to success in the NCAA, I'd venture to say that no team this year will be as good as UK last year or as good as UNC could have been (before the injuries). I guarantee that no team this year will produce the talent in the pros that those 2 teams did.

No way will this year be better. No chance in hell. The Lockout had so many top players coming back. Top teams were loaded.

Just to add however...I think we are going to have an interesting season.

Unlike last year, there is no clear favorite. I think before the season last year, you could have said there was a 90% chance or higher than UK, UNC or OSU wins the title. Maybe even higher odds. Not in 2012-2013.

This is a year we might see a mid-major make it back to the Final Four and a team come from outside of the top 10 and take the title. Maybe that's not great for the people who love absolutely stacked teams with multiple NBA stars, but it sure makes for an exciting season.

I hate people who always talk about a sport having a down year. Just enjoy the game, FFS.

Adding to that, comparing things year to year, when you can NEVER see them match-up, is also pointless.
