of course they think its an achievement, its their job/life. but dont act like this shit hasnt been done before or is some huge leap. putting a man on mars will be an achievement. just like putting a rocket into space was, then putting a man on the moon was. putting machines with slightly better technology that looks for the same things we have been looking for the past 20 years in space and landing on planets has become fairly routine for the USA over the past 50 years.

dont mistake what i am saying. i am not advocating we stop or even slow space exploration. also, his speech confirms my point when he talks about low earth orbit, basically saying that shit has been done before, lets move on. we've landed on mars and other planets, its not exactly a huge challenge anymore when it comes to space. if we had been trying and failing at it, i might give it to you has a huge achievement.

Okay I misunderstood what you were getting at then. Apologies.

But the problem there is that NASA doesn't have the funding to be able to go to Mars or even the Moon. We've severely underfunded one of the organizations responsible for some of the greatest achievements and inspiring countless students and people around the world. Think about how proud Ohio is of its astronauts. We won't be creating that type of hero anymore with the pitiful level of funding we give to NASA. We'd rather give $850 billion or whatever to banks illegally colluding and screwing over the world economy (which by the way that could fund the entire 50 year history of NASA). It's sad.
