One person's "weak" is another person's "fiscally responsible". I wouldn't want my town to spend tens of thousands of dollars to defend a logo.

And I quote: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

Currently, I can't remember where I got that quote from but I'm pretty sure it was someone important. I'd look it up, but I like the Abraham Lincoln quote: "The tough thing about the internet is that it's tough to trust the sources." Amen, Abe. Amen.

Good for the atheist group. Steubenville officials were stupid to ever approve the cross symbol in the first place.

I'm not catholic, or even religious, but the logo features the skyline of the town....so I don't think it is pushing a certain religion, it is just depicting the architecture of the city.

It would be the same as if Clearwater put their skyline on their logo and the big Scientology building would be on there...or Salt Lake with the Mormons....or any town with a religious landmark.

Not really the whole skyline, just a few key points. Why they ever approved it with the cross was stupid. Somebody had to know it was going to draw trouble and I'm glad the city's dropped it for two reason: I don't approve of it and b) I don't want the city paying to defend the decision of religious exclusion.

What I love about these fringe groups is that they threaten the masses without representation. Some of these organizations have tens of members. They cant mobilize or move large ammounts of people. I bet this group has less then 500 members nationwide.

Stuebanville ought to just tell them to **** off

this is probably all the members they have in Madison.

I think their all posing by the dead dog and the sign just happened to be in the back round, just a coincidence.

The city was going to change the logo and now that's on hold because a bunch of lawyers are willing to fight the case pro bono. That article dated yesterday is about 3 days out of date so they need to review their facts. The city also never voted on the logo, it was created for advertising purposes and is not the official city seal.

I hope they fight it all the way to the supreme court. I am not one bit religious, but see nothing wrong with it and I thought in America, you had freedom of speech. I find it strange that Franciscan University was the school that was fighting the Obama health care tax that made national news because of the birth control contained in it and now out of the blue they are being picked on along with the city by some idiots. This happened the same weekend that some retard went to the council meeting in Toronto, Ohio and complained about the 4th of July celebration having a fireworks display that looked like a cross, most likely the same guy who filed the complaint against Steubenville.

see no problem with it. Stubenville could fight it all they want but they will lose. they city knows this, and doesn't want to waste their money.

pretty smart move if you are a tax payer. there are plenty of other things you could do with the money you want to waste to fight the logo dispute in court.

First off, lol at the source of the article. Second of all, I'm glad they're removing the cross. No business being there, just as an upside cross doesn't belong. I would love to see uppity christians get all up in arms if the picture displayed an upside down cross or "666" or something. Bunch of hypocrites.

Christians, Scientology, all the same BS. Their both a joke IMO and have no business being displayed in a city's billboard. Also, just to note, it wouldnt just be christians flipping shit. I would be as well if it were my town. I don't any religious agenda being displayed with my tax dollars.

Well yeah that was my point. The only reason Christians are offended here is because it's their bullshit that's being removed from a billboard/logo thing and not the bullshit of some other group.

Seriously, imagine the uproar if they tried to put an Islamic symbol or something like that up there or something explicitly anti-theist? People would go nuts. They'd be right but it just shows how damned hypocritical people get with this topic.

I'm a Christian. Is it true that it was a skyline? If so, keep it.

Is an upside down cross in the skyline? If so, put it in!

We're not all as f***tard-ish as you might think.

Officials at Franciscan University of Steubenville told Fox News the chapel and cross were included in the logo because the school is one of the top employers in the area and one of the most recognized entities in the city.

So now the issue will become, "Take it down from the skyline!"

Once again, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." - Someone important. Like Abe Lincoln important.***

I have found that the Constitution can be very inconvenient from time to time.

***It could have been Denzel Washington who said that. He's pretty legit.
