So today after work I am trying to catch a Subway home, and of course like every fucking day I miss the train by a millisecond. It runs every 10-15 min or so.

There are usually like 1 or 2 benches, so I decided to have a seat today since I just missed the train I was the only one there and thus, first dibs on the bench.

After 5 min, it's pretty crowded down there and someone taps me on the shoulder and says to me, "yo, let me sit down."

I looked at this fella, and simply (and politely) said no. And sort of laughed..cuz it was funny to me.

He just stared at me for like 5 seconds and his friend popped out of nowhere and she says to me, "this guy is an American Hero. He was in blah blah blah War in blah blah blah country...blah blah blah" I don't even remember what the hell she was saying, but basically he was in the US Army and was fighting A-Rabs. I simply responded, "I appreciate everything you've done for this country. But that doesn't give you the right to take this seat from me" I said that trying to hold back so much laughter.

The chick called me a **** and he was red in the face and they walked away lol

Most random god damn thing ever...anyone ever face something like this?

tl;dr-crazy war veteran tried to take my bench seat from me. Said no. He left. Ever happen to you?

1. If I see a war veteran I offer my seat out of respect. I would do the same for any old person, woman, etc.
2. The guy lost that courtesy when he said "yo, let me sit down" acting like a bag of douche.

Did he have a t-shirt on with his accomplishments.

He fought in a war.

You got to the bench first.

He wins most battles....but not the "who the fuck gets to sit on the bench" battle.

This. I would offer as a courtesy, but if I don't, don't tell me to, cause then it's certainly not happening.

I offer my seat to elderly and women. Not to mid 30s veterans.

If he had obvious war injuries then yes, give up your seat. If not, keep standing.

Really surprised by the responses. Reps to the OC, better than I thought. I expected a lot of QQing.

Sounds like a load of bull to me, most War veterans don't go around wearing it like they expect shit for nothing. Especially not in a setting like this, how in the fuck are you supposed to know, first of all. Second believe it? You could have just as easily of said you were as well, then what? lolfail on that dipshit.

What's an obvious war injury?

Missing leg/arm, serious limp, etc I assume is what he was referring to.

I mean I know what was being implied, but none of those are obvious war injuries. They are just injuries.

Tiger would have no leg to stand on in this argument.

I am a 57 year old veteran of 2 wars. I am perfectly capable of standing. You, nor anyone else, owe me a seat. Now if I saw an elderly man with a WWII coat on, I would probably get up and offer him my seat, but that is more a product of his age than his status as a veteran. I would also stand for an elderly non-veteran, an elderly lady, a pregnant lady, or someone with an obvious physical disability.

I would be surprised if this guy was an actual veteran. Not to say that I haven't met some real a-holes during my nearly 40 years in the military, but I don't know many that would attempt to capitalize on their status as a veteran in the manner you described.

I obviously appreciate the sacrifices that any veteran has made for their country, but that doesn't entitle them to act like they are superior to anyone else. If anything most veterans are used to sacrifice and would be more likely to give up their seat than expect someone to do the same for them.

Shouldn't his "friend" be more pissed that you didn't offer her a seat instead of him? lol

I agree with pretty much what everyone has said. Unless he is on crutches or a walker, then he can stand. Even if he was missing an arm that wouldn't preclude him from standing.

I'd say probably 25% of my train rides I give up my seat for an elderly person. I'm not a dick. But when someone expects me to just get up because you served in the military, that's where I draw the line.

American Hero's who aren't disabled aren't afraid to stand 10 min for a train. This guy needed to go find himself.
