I was in Chicago this week visiting my daughter, yesterday I was getting on the red line. I ask this young guy if I could sit on the bench he had taken up two set with his 007 breif case. All I wanted him to do is to remove the case so I could sit down.. mofo said no :laugh:

I give up my seat for hot chick, old people (then we have a debate on who older), women with children, pregnant women, handicap people, people who are carrying lot of bags. That covers my bases...

His service is commendable but doesn't earn him special treatment on the bus/train. Especially if he's in his mid-30s and isn't injured or anything. And how the fuck are you to know this guy wasn't just making that shit up? If he's a big enough douche to say "yo, let me sit down" he's probably a big enough douche to make something like that up.

Agreed. Having served some military time myself I don't expect special treatment and even become embarrassed when it's offered to me.

If it were me and the person was elderly (regardless of veteran status), disabled, or pregnant I will gladly give up my seat. Otherwise it's first come, first served. If this dink & his girlfriend are using his "veteran of foreign wars" status to expect special privilege, they're dillusional.

I think if somebody offers to give up their seat or whatever to a veteran, it should be considered something out of the ordinary, special, and appreciated by the veteran. It should NOT be expected, though. Veterans get way too much glory, IMO. Now, if we're talking about war veterans that won our country's freedom in the Revolutionary War, or changed the whole landscape of our country in the Civil War, then sure. But if you're over fighting other countries' wars instead of our own, I don't give a crap. And don't expect special treatment from companies, airing radio and TV advertisements pressuring employers to "hire veterans".

What subway stop was it? Location can usually dictate what kind of characters are waiting for the train. I am going to ballpark it here and guess it was a Times Square stop, or something in the Canal Street or Chambers Street area ...

Again I don't think there is anything wrong with that. If my old lady ever said anything like that to someone I'd smack the shit out of her. :)
