Aren't the Mets paying Bobby Bonilla a couple million a year until 2027 or thereabouts?

It seemed like he had something like Bonilla's to keep the Reds low enough to sign others.

Yea, pretty sure he's getting a million or 2 a year until he's like 60. I'll do some quick digging.Ironman92;1233648 wrote:It seemed like he had something like Bonilla's to keep the Reds low enough to sign others.

From Hal McCoy.From what I understand, the Reds will be paying Ken Griffey Jr. a million or two a year until he is 62 years old, a deferred contract put together by former GM Jim Bowden, who, fortunately, is no longer paid by the Reds.

I think signing Votto to such an extensive contract was a head scratcher.

Yeah, Griffey, BB, and a few others got these kind of deals. It started to get a popular. I dont know if it is that popular nowadays.,
I didnt like it then becuase the reds were always talking what their payroll would be and was wondering if the reds, down the road, would use it as an excuse they were still paying him

Sadly, this probably ranks around #5 or so on current Mets horrible contracts. Thankfully, the putrid contracts of Oliver Perez and Luis Castillo are finally off the books.karen lotz;1233625 wrote:Aren't the Mets paying Bobby Bonilla a couple million a year until 2027 or thereabouts?
Not sure which GM I prefer: Minaya, who bid against himself in signing below-average talent for premium contracts, or Alderson, who outside of the Giants' brainfart in dealing the Mets Zach Wheeler hasn't done a thing of worth.

No player is worth that money, no doubt about that.ernest_t_bass;1233674 wrote:I think signing Votto to such an extensive contract was a head scratcher.
BUT..........it is about the market value of a rising star that is expected to be one for years and years to come.
I think the the resigning of him put to rest alot of talk and speculation about him, the team, and brought stability and showed the players and fans that they are serious about winning.

Sounds like the Mets should just stay away from former Pirates players.BigAppleBuckeye;1233434 wrote:What are the worst contracts in MLB history? I will start ... the one and only JASON BAY:

Tim Lincecum in the first of his 2 year/$41 million deal. He has only went on to go 4-11 with a 5.88 ERA. This guy has officially lost it
