That's the result of Funnyjunk.com threatening to sue The Oatmeal unless he paid them $20,000. The reason they were going to sue him is because he pointed out that they were infringing upon his copyright by hosting hundreds of his comics on their site without permission and making ad-revenue off it. Clearly a frivolous case for them (http://theoatmeal.com/blog/funnyjunk_letter)

It's worth a read because instead of paying them any money The Oatmeal said he'd (just one dude really) raise the $20,000 for charity and mail Funnyjunk's attorney a drawing of his (the attorney's) mother seducing a Kodiak bear and a picture of the $20,000 cash. Instead of that he actually raised more than $210,000 for charity and the pictures are hilarious.

If you raised that much after having a goal of 20k, would you honestly donate ALL of it?

Absolutely and he's also legally required to anyway. Dude has a pretty damned successful website as well so I don't think he's hurting for money or anything.
