Something that has always peaked my interest is the irrational hate for corporations(and rich people I suppose if the thread heads that way). Why do you hate corporations? If you are feeling exploited by said company, why do you still shop there?

This is the same people who bitch about keeping manufacturing jobs in the US, yet still shop at WalMart and buy $2 shirts made in China. These are also the same people who bitch about not getting a fair wage and want to be paid $20/hr + benefits to screw in a nail on car; where in China a company can do it for $.12 an hour. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

I love corporations. I hope we lower their taxes to as near zero as possible so they can continue to grow and invest in new products and services to enhance my standard of living. They also do wonders for the economy by providing a nice ROI for my retirement account and employ the best and brightest to tackle the worlds most challenging problems. Are some corporations corrupt? Yes. Are some corporations not hiring black people? No. Any other complaints?

I apologize in advance for the O-trap length post. Mods, please feel free to edit my post down to 140 characters since that is the longest post my generation can read and write.

I hate bad customer service and socialism. I have no dislike for producers who make the world go round.

I think they are the cog that makes the engine of the world go round.

I have no problem with someone making a buck.

I do have a problem with raping people though. The price at which we have to pay for certain products, clothing, food, healthcare, or whatever has gotten so outrageous though. The usual mark-up on a product is 50% or even 100% (i.e., something that costs $50 to make will be cost $100 to buy). But, with things now, that mark-up is WAY over 100%. That is gouging -- and stupid people buy it.

Oh well. It has gotten me this far. I'll be fine staying away from certain corporations.

I don't get why people complain about healthcare...do you expect doctors and nurses to work for free?? They have bills to pay too, and went to school for a lot of years...which means most likely big student loans.

The schools charge a lot to pay for the professors...so should the professors and staff work for free to have lower tuition??

Everybody wants to make big bucks, but no one wants to pay a lot for products and services.

It's like the old saying that everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die to get there.

The cost of goods is only one component of the cost structure of a business. We owned an antique shop and our product markup was somewhere on the order of 700%, yet we made an extremely modest profit.

If I make a product, and people are willing to and continue to buy it at 300% markup, I'm going to keep selling it at that price, if not test the waters and raise the price even higher. It's called business. If people stop buying something, the price will come down.

Remember, any time you purchase something, you're giving your "dollar vote" for that product at that price. Stop voting, and change will occur.

If the markup is so great and you feel you can offer the same service or product for a lower price, why not start a competing company with lower prices? You'll completely dominate the market and make endless amounts of money because the other companies are just charging too much.

This isn't even directed at you necessarily. There are a lot of rich smart people that aren't getting into those particular product markets that you allege are "raping people"; because they know that company is already offering the lowest possible price for that level of input and don't think they can offer a better deal. It's the beauty of capitalism.

Really? Which ones? I randomly picked Verizon, and saw that over the last 12 months, their net profit is just over 2% of sales. Yeah, they're really doing some gouging.

Just about everyone who starts a company goes into debt when they first start it. You develop a business plan, a mission, a strategy, and present it to people hoping to receive investments and/or loans to get started. I know someone who recently did this and received a 6-figure investment to get going.

People complaining about cell phones and cable companies is another pet peeve...these are luxuries...if you don't want to pay the price, then don't buy the service!

People who complain about big corporations(capitalism) are usually any mix of uneducated, poor, and have socialist values. Coincidence that those usually go hand in hand?

The only reason it isn't easy is because you have regulation after regulation after regulation brought to you by the people who think corporations are out to gouge everyone and ruin the world.

Lower the barrier to entry to near zero and you'll see any company who tries to gouge the customer swiftly out of business. Plus, you have completely ignored the fact that there are lots of rich smart people out there who aren't trying to enter the market to steal all the customers who lower prices and equal inputs. That tells you all you need to know about the price being what it is.

Poor and stupid are highly correlated. People will fight me tooth and nail on this one, but the reality is the reality.
