How is that most likely? Who says Roger is done winning slams, and also how is it a foregone conclusion that Nadal will be unstoppable and surpass 17+ slams? A lot can change.

Fed isn't done, for 1. The Joker and Murray can win some. Nasal has bad knees. I don't see Rafa taking over. He is without a doubt the 2nd greatest ever though, IMO, behind Fed.

He's only 26, and has a vice grip on the French Open that almost guarantees him that tourney every year because of his dominance on clay.

Roger turns 31 next month. He probably only has 2-3 more years of chances unless he bucks history and doesn't age.

I think Nadal will pass him unless someone else figures out how to beat him on clay. He has already won 7 of 8, and will probably win another 3-4 of those alone before he's done.

The fact Federer can't beat him at all anymore at majors also complicates things because he is dependent on someone else knocking him out if he wants to add to his major total.

I like Federer more, but the way it lines up Nadal has a really good shot at ending up with more majors at this point thanks to the French Open.

It's certainly possible for Nadal to do it. But it's not like he is cleaning up right now. Joker is the guy to watch for until next years French. People are forgetting that Fed has been healthy his whole career. Nadal has had some major knee issues, and the way he plays, when he is 30 he will likely be done competing for titles...IMO. Fed has 2 more years because of his health and unreal fitness/court movement over the years.

Throw in Tsonga and Murray, and you have a pretty competitive field. It's not like it will be a cakewalk to the finals every slam as it was a few years ago when Nadal and Federer faced off in nearly every final.

Don't follow tennis too closely, but it seems like a tennis player's prime is much earlier than most other sports. And the age at which you don't expect a guy to be competitive any longer is much earlier. Why is that? What is different about tennis compared to most other sports?

Or maybe I'm wrong. Like I said, I don't follow tennis closely(today's match was great though.)

No way on Nidal. His game is not "big enough", as in overpowering. Plenty of standouts at the French over the decades who couldn't handle the hard courts/grass. As for the best player...I still think Borg was the best.

Tennis players peak earlier due to the incredible physical toll. Only basketball compares. Percentage of players staying at a high peak are pretty close in hoops and tennis.

Nadal will pass Pete in time in Career Slams as well, and then there will be little doubt. Nadal DOMINATES clay like Pete did grass. I think so as well. But I think that is still 4-5 more majors. Though Djokovich and Murray will have a lot to say about that.
