related note: did you hear the new jay electronica - exhibit c. A lot of buzz around him, this track, and his upcoming album.LTrain23 wrote: Trueblue, who gives a shit? Why does it upset you so much?
Anyway, Lil Wayne has turned into garbage. He's not had anything I liked since Tha Carter II.
However, hip-hop is just fine. Sure, if you listen to the radio or MTV, you may not be opened up to the complete picture, which would allow you to form opinions that hip-hop does indeed suck, but alas, it doesn't...
Cudi, Wale, Drake, Blakroc, etc.. have all produce some nice recent albums. Each have a different flavor, and all the albums were produced with artistic quality.
Great music is out there, you just have to know who to look for.
Also, Souljaboy is NOT hip-hop. So don't get that shit twisted.

Not just my opinion, but he is no where close to what he used to be..SQ_Crazies wrote: Nothing you've liked so that means he's turned to garbage? LMAO! Lil Wayne is far from garbage--he's as good as he's ever been.
If you think he is, you're obviously just a biased Weezy fan and nothing can be said or done to show you the light.
Compare any of his old stuff to this recent crap and you'll figure it out.
If you think he's as good as he's EVER been, then you my friend don't know hip-hop.
That's all I'm saying to you on this subject, as it's really not worth the debate.

Yeah, I mean, I don't use the word, but I also don't get offended by it in music, the same way I'm not taken aback by gratuitous violence in films, or really violent/otherwise offensive lyrics in other forms of music. I mean, the popular argument is that black people took the word, altered the use, and therefore made it more powerful/liberating. Eh, I don't know if I buy that, but again, I don't use it, so I don't personally have to worry about explaining my use of it away.Trueblue23 wrote: You would think that word would be the absolute last thing a black person would want to hear...
Oh well.
Is it racist? probably not. I don't think I need to explain why it's not, nor debate whether it's fair, but racist? na. Offensive? well, to you, and some others, I'm sure it is. But to me? also a no. What DOES make me cringe in a lot of hip-hop culture is the disrespect of women, and the homophobia, which, to a degree, are far less prominent than they were in the early 00's. But, it's still something I struggle with as a really, really big supporter of both mainstream and underground hip-hop.
The "N" word? pssshh. On to the next one.

I don't see the N word as what it was intended to be anymore anyways because racism is dead to me as far as I'm concerned. In regular life anyways--there are some who push it, the media hasn't done anything but fuel the flame for the most part. But that's a good analogy with violence in movies--doesn't offend, just is what it is.
