Yeah....that pic will give you a javelin of your own.

That was impressive. WR broken, one that had stood since 1985 with the performance-enhanced East Germans.Ironman92;1244494 wrote:Women's 4x1 smoked Jamaica!
Don't think the men will.

US men might keep it close.

If there are any rules in track and field, the number one rule should be that you cannot run a race if you are a machine. I wonder how Michael Phelps would feel if he had to swim the 200 fly against a submarine. (With respect to full disclosure, though, Oscar's parts might need tuned up or re-oiled; he hasn't exactly fared all that well.)
That rule should probably apply to Usain Bolt as well.
Yeah, I agree that it was probably a tough decision and I am sure a lot of consideration went into it. But I was just being facetious.Ironman92;1244530 wrote:I'm not nearly intelligent enough to decide if it's fair.....but the Olympic people have put a lot into that decision.
Is it an advantage? Let's just come out and say it - He was one of the few, if not the only, white guys at that point. Draw your own conclusions.reclegend22;1244523 wrote:I still have no idea why Oscar Pistorius is able to compete in the regular Olympics.
There were other white guys in the semi finals.gut;1244574 wrote:Is it an advantage? Let's just come out and say it - He was one of the few, if not the only, white guys at that point. Draw your own conclusions.
So with the US's deteriorating 400 program, it sounds as if we should amputate the legs of all promising 400 runners in the US and give them space legs so we can start winning again. I like it.gut;1244574 wrote:Is it an advantage? Let's just come out and say it - He was one of the few, if not the only, white guys at that point. Draw your own conclusions.
My post was more in jest. I am still undecided on the subject as I'm not familiar with the testing the IOC did of the apparatus and his individual fitness to determine there was no advantage. The main reason I am skeptical is because the carbon fiber doesn't use energy (thus allowing more for other muscles) or fill up with lactic acid like other runners legs would.reclegend22;1244678 wrote:^^Are jetpacks legal? The more I think about it, the more I believe that Oscar should probably just be competing against paras. Even though he didn't compete very successfully or win anything, he still, as Fly4Fun states above, was running with (possibly?) aerodynamic space legs.
For the sake of argument, what if Usain Bolt were kidnapped by a posse from Kingston and they removed his lower limbs with spears. He would then be forced to compete in the Olympics with space legs. Is that fair? That might create a perfect, unbeatable storm. Would Carl Lewis have become a legend if he had been forced to run all those races against Rosie the Robot from The Jetsons? Perhaps the space legs didn't help Oscar because he's just not a superstar runner.
What you just posted is why I should have no opinion on this matter. Those are things that I never would have thought about. Great points, though, if they are in fact legitimate advantages.Fly4Fun;1244685 wrote:My post was more in jest. Fine by me. Leaves only foreign country men to cutting off their penis, so to compete in the Olympics.Fly4Fun;1244634 wrote:So with the US's deteriorating 400 program, it sounds as if we should amputate the legs of all promising 400 runners in the US and give them space legs so we can start winning again. Wow, not sure why he was allowed to compete. That seems like a considerable advantage.said_aouita;1244932 wrote:Pistorius participated in a two-day study at Cologne Sports University to test his eligibility to compete in accordance with Olympic ethical standards. The testing found that his artificial limbs used 25 percent less energy than runners with natural legs and that they led to less vertical motion and less mechanical work for lifting the body. The chief researcher of the study, a professor by the name of Peter Brüggemann, reported these results in Die Welt, a German daily newspaper, claiming that Pistorius "has considerable advantages over athletes without prosthetic limbs who were tested by us. It was more than just a few percentage points."
Continues on after the cut/pasting I did above.

Agreed. Good stuff.Ironman92;1244960 wrote:NBC starting their first hour of coverage as a historical video of Winston Churchill is well done and very important to history and especially that area.......but I kinda want to watch those fast guys hand off that baton.

The Dream Team stuff last night was good too. And before that, the look back at the 96 games.
NBC deserves a lot of flack, but this stuff has been pretty damn good.
I understand your post. I was saying it is good stuff.Ironman92;1244966 wrote:I don't think you read all of my post.

You know NBC, the track stuff won't be until 10:45-11:15pm. Just enjoy.
How about this, the result was a shocker.Ironman92;1244977 wrote:Your attitude is great. Boys in panties are not.
