It would be nice if Cleveland could do something today, considering Pittsburgh's dropped two to the Reds in the standings in two days. It'd be nice if they could do something today, too, but that's for later tonight.

I was going to start the thread since the Reds were already down. Couldn't be accused of jinxing it.

However, Tomlin is terrible and so is Leake. 2 runs isn't going to win...

A few days ago Jon Heyman tweeted about how Andrew McCutchen might be the leading NL MVP candidate. I love McCutchen, I'd love him in CF for us, and he's definitely A candidate. But LOL. Votto is #1 and no one is even close right now. His rationale was McCutchen leads the Pirates in every offensive category. Given their offense that isn't that impressive. That said, yes, he's having a great season. But Votto is on a different level.

I'd begrudgingly agree. McCutchen might be more valuable TO HIS TEAM than Votto (at least Joey has guys that actually provide offensive support), but Votto's having the better year.

What's crazy is how high he is in the "counting stats" when he is walked so much and on a team who is below average in every hitting category as a team.

To be 4th in hits but also lead the league in walks is amazing.

For instance, the last player other than Votto in the NL to lead the league in walks was Prince Fielder in 2010 and he finished 35th in the league in hits.

In 2009, Adrian Gonzalez led the NL in walks and finished 34th in hits.
In 2008, Adam Dunn led the NL in walks and didn't finish in the top 75 in hits.
From 2003-2007 (minus 2005 by 2 walks), Barry Bonds led the NL in walks and never finished in the top 50 in hits.
In 2002, Bonds' amazing season where he hit .370, he was still 40th in the NL in hits.

When we get leads, we do this wayyyy too often. Phillips homers and it's STILL a 7 pitch inning. Too much first pitch swinging!

Everything is legit except for the Bonds comparison....he was leading the league in walks by almost 100.....that's it's own category.

Well yes, but the point is, it's almost statistically impossible to lead the league in walks and be that high up in hits...but nobody is ever going to touch Bonds' numbers, roids or not.
