Do you buy it? What products do you buy?

I typically buy anything I can organic, but especially eggs and milk. I don't eat a lot of meat, but I will opt for organic chicken and beef when possible.

Also, thoughts?

I have a freezer full of grassfed beef that I guess would be considered organic. I'll buy as much organic produce as possible. Also, organic ketchup.

Anything organic we eat we don't typically buy except for eggs sometimes. My parents keep bees so we get free honey, I hunt so we get lots of venison, and we usually grow a nice sized garden, so we have fresh veggies. Usually anything we buy at the store is just a normal product.

I wish we had the room for a garden. Stupid city living. I might start gardening in containers on some accessible roofs of our house.

  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Corn (However, almost all corn is genetically modified)
  • Kiwi

We have a 10x20 garden at a local park. They rent space to residents every year. Pretty cool program. They provide water and compost. They don't allow any sprays or anything either.

Grassfed beef, whole chickens and pork from a local farmer. Typically will buy salmon from a store but it's wild caught. Try to get organic eggs but they are often tough to find. Don't be fooled by "vegetarian fed" chickens. Chickens are omnivores, not vegetarians. They eat seeds & greens but also bugs, etc. Vegetables usually from a local farmers market but am working on putting in my own garden.

Oh, the park where we have ours has a rental house that township employees live in, so it's pretty well watched.

I won't consume any meat unless I know the source. I have a few farmers that I drive to and pick up grass-fed beef. Have a few good sources of pastured eggs as well. Belong to a CSA at work which does have a variety of produce and grass-fed dairy products, but also a lot of other stuff I don't generally consume. Outside of that, I do go the "grocery" route sometimes for produce and other misc. products, but otherwise it's personal sources or farmer's markets.

I'd like to really find a source of raw milk/butter/cream from a local dairy farm. Unfortunately, a lot of the sources that I've been able to find haven't been necessarily "local." Definitely would want to travel there if I'm getting anything raw.

That's a pretty helpful list. We grow pears, strawberries, spinach, potatoes, peppers, spinach, and raspberries all on our property back home, but since I only get back a couple times a year I usually only have a limited supply at school.

Organic produce is not necessarily chemical-free, nor are the "natural" pesticides any healthier for human consumption.

[h=3]Do pesticides in foods cause cancer?[/h] Pesticides and herbicides can be toxic when used improperly in industrial, agricultural, or other occupational settings. Although vegetables and fruits sometimes contain low levels of these chemicals, overwhelming scientific evidence supports the overall health benefits and cancer-protective effects of eating vegetables and fruits. At present there is no evidence that residues of pesticides and herbicides at the low doses found in foods increase the risk of cancer, but fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly before eating.

Meat and veggies when possible. Still wash all fruits and veggies before eating, never sure who's hands have touched them.

Wow, for once I will actually agree with CoA! As someone heavily involved in agriculture, I think we should focus on simply HAVING enough food to feed our ever-growing global population. If that means utilizing new technology and GMO's, then so be it...

I have no issue if people want to buy/eat organic food, but the belief that it's better/healthier for you is BS.
