Also, this one. "You come at the King. You best not miss."

Kinda a spoiler, but if you havent seen it, its so out of context it wont matter. But this scene is awesome. Mostly due to Omars quote and whistling...which always gets in my head.

Omar was very good, but not even the best from The Wire. Best character on there IMO would be Stringer Bell.

But it should be noted, Season 2 is still in the top 10 seasons of television ever. Seasons 3 and 4 are better than anything ever put on television or screen IMO.

If I was constructing a well rounded college curriculum, a course watching and discussing The Wire would for sure be in it. It would be more beneficial to people than 90% of liberal arts classes.

Not only that, but a lot of the people who have characters which are based on that are actually in the show.

The basis for Avon Barksdale is (well it's a collection of people's stories) mainly this guy:

As you know, he's the advice-offering preacher, lol. He was a huge drug dealer in the 70s/80s and did time for it.

The obese/jackass detective, Jay Landsman, is a minor character in the show.

The characters even share the same name haha

This guy is a radio personality and I think once sold drugs and did time:

Two friends of mine from HS are doing their PhD's at Johns Hopkins and they said that you can drive by any of the locations mentioned in the show and they are truly there. They said that much of the cast was literally just locals whom they told "listen you see this sorta thing every day, just do that on camera for us;" apparently they see 2-3 of the characters at the supermarket from time to time.

As for the show, there are classes on the show at Harvard, Yale, Oxford, etc. It's the best insight into urban plight ever made. Just the way that the story builds is unheard of. Season one is just drug dealing from both POV's, but then you get drug trafficing, inner city schools, journalism, politics, etc etc etc all form multiple POV's....it's absurd. Best show ever.

Since I'm talking abotu shows that I love, it's coolstorybro time:

My roommate's girlfriend's aunt lives in Albequerque and the Breaking Bad producers asked her if they could film in her house for this season. She agreed and they started filming and discovered that the overhead fan was too loud so they replaced it for her, wrote her a $3,000 check on top of that and took her and her family out to dinner with the cast and crew. Soooo awesome.

"The obese/jackass detective, Jay Landsman, is a minor character in the show. "

Yes, and his acting, or lack thereof, showed. IMO it is the best drama show ever, but had its flaws. Simon's ego was one of them. The fifth season was derailed by his ego and providing characters that were obviously projections of his work in the newspaper business.

I'm glad The Wire had a fifth season to tie up the loose ends, but it was sad to see the decline in quality. Hopefully the writers of Breaking Bad don't make the same mistake.

Yeah, I couldn't quite remember if that was Season 5 or Season 4, but agree with the newsroom drama and it missing the bar set by a mile. The storyline got a bit fantastical, also, which for a show so strong on realily really hurt.

A lot of the top Universities in the country (Harvard, Brown Yale etc.) have classes exactly that.

Never watched the 5th season, but 2nd was my favorite. 4 was solid, but not as good as the first 3 IMO.

My rank is 4,3,1,5,2.

Greatest series ever. If you have Directv, the Audience Channel (101) constantly plays them. That's where I first watched them. They played them in order each Sunday, uncut. As soon I finished all the episodes, I went out and bought the box set. For those of you that haven't finished the entire series yet, season 5 ties in with season 2 and you won't hate 2 as much.

This was posted on Funny or Die a couple days ago. Wire fans will love it.

Just finished re-watching season 4, one of the best scenes that shows the brilliance of the show. IF YOU INTEND ON/OR ARE WATCHING THE SHOW AND HAVENT SEEN THROUGH SEASON 4 I SUGGEST YOU DON'T READ.

[SP]Early in the first season they are playing chess in the pit, and throughout the series Bodie refers to himself as a 'pawn in the game'. On the corner he is stuck while Chris and Snoop are trapping him in; O-Dog moves out of the alley and down the sidewalk exactly like a knight and kills him.[/SP]

As for best character? Thats tough. I loved Omar, but the Wire had a ton of awesome characters. Some less important, but were so good n their roles that it made them awesome (Lester comes to mind)

BUT. Omar is definitely the best villain of all time, imo. I think he is just ahead of Stringer Bell who might be my second favorite villain of all time. Unless we are counting bad guy protagonists as villains (like Tony Soprano or Dexter).

I wouldn't say Omar was the best villian. He was very likable. Hell, he robbed the drug dealers. Marlo, Snoop, and Chris were far more scarier.

That's awesome. Snoop had actually spent 6 years in prison for murder just before her role.
