Football drives everything and IF a playoff results in four 16 team superconferences, I'd forsee those two as the obvious choices to join.

I mean I understand the decision, but academically, you know the stuff that actually matters, Nebraska should be in the SEC or Big 12.

I disagree with that part.

But the amount of GECs required is bullshit. I didn't need Theater, or Classics, or fucking astronomy.

The 2nd astronomy course at OSU....F that class!

The minor in religion I got at MC was really fun. Only took 2 summer courses and 18 instead of 12 hrs my final semester to achieve. No regrets on my GEC's except maybe Spanish and art. Mainly because I didn't take them srsly enough to retain anything.

Many colleges are a joke, and employers know it. That's why carrying a 3.5 from BFE State U doesn't mean anything at all other than indicating that you're at least marginally literate. The quality of the school and difficulty of the major are much more valuable than the GPA. That's why we recruit at a handful of schools and skip over the rest--the GPAs are utterly meaningless at most places.

It's not like they took in WVU or Cincy. I think Mizzo and Iowa State would come in if they have to go to 16.

I really wish something would be done to reform education -- the way it's done and the structure.

I think the feds, state, or individual institutions should look at reforming to make education more important. I am really for it, I have my own ideas. I think colleges and universities could do so much more in terms of preparing individuals for "the real world."

I think private schools could do this much sooner than large universities. Just less hoops to jump through. We have started to do some of this "reform" stuff with the team I coach. We are giving the guys an opportunity to really make school worthwhile. There's just no reason why school should cost as much as it is and then pushing everyone on to get a new degree.

It's now "the Master's is the new Bachelor's." Soon enough, it will be "the Doctorate is the new Bachelor's/Master's."


EDIT:
Oh, and I am glad the OP posted about his GPA in graduate school...like that matters...hoping for Dean's List? Cum Laude? Summa Cum Laude? Magna Cum Laude?

Missouri belonged in the Big 10 before Nebraska.

Also, to get back on track...

College is a scam. They hose you across the board. tuition, books, parking...everything.

You pay thousands of dollars to get a piece of paper that says you're competent in something.

I've met tons of people with advanced degrees that are completely worthless outside of their field.

It seems as though common sense is a dying art. IMO, having strong common sense outweighs a college degree.

The bold really sums it up. It's all about STEM majors and going to a school that's on a map somewhere. This isn't the baby boomer generation who got to get high paying jobs with Spanish history degrees; this is reality. Don't go to school unless you are taking a difficult major and no going to graduate school to teach is a stupid idea.

It does, but people automatically assume that people with non-STEM degrees aren't hirable because they didn't take a challenging college degree.

I took a sociology based degree just to get the fuck out of school. I knew it was a game going in and wanted out ASAP.
