No offense, but Ready got 8th and Grandview 13th at Hamilton Township. Who are these coaches ranking these teams?!? I'm just not seeing the top ten rank. You really can't put much stock in this stuff.

Saw Westfall at Hamilton Tourney. They're good and beat some of those teams on the coaches poll. Don't worry, they'll get the love.

I didn't get USMC's point either....

Ready finished ahead of Grandview at HT...this week Ready is ranked 7th, and Grandview 10th in the poll...
Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

Grandview only had two wrestlers at HT... I didnt even know they had team big enough to be ranked this year.

I am not defending, just interpreting what I think usmc is saying. To be simple, I think he is saying that based on both teams finishes at the Hamilton tourney, that neither deserve to be ranked in the top ten as of yet. That is what I got anyway.

Olentangy and Olentangy Liberty came down to thre final match with Olentangy's Heavy winning by pin for a five point margin. Exciting match to watch. Liberty maybe closing the GAP. However, I would expect Olentangy's conditioning to improve over the year. The official had a bad night costing Olentangy two 2 points on a flagrant foul and ejection. Could have had a big impact on the match outcome but more importantly costing a wrestler mat time by such a call. Unless there was something that I did not see or not aware of that call should never be made.

Cruiser, Taylor from WK will probably go 125 sometime in early january. Surprising Mccombs already went 125, he must be big.

I don't know if i buy into all the olentangy kids being ranked, i definately see 3 that sould be up there, fiorucci, grandominico and Hetterscheidt, but it seems as if they'll have a strong team.

Maynard #285 lb @ Watterson DII will be in the top mix. . He has beaten Settles and Pressley just recently and gave Schramm a great match last year. As always, the mat will be the deciding factor, not the opinions of us fans.

Their freshman 112 McHugh is the real deal.
He would have taken top 3 in jr high state last yr if he wrestled.

When "has he beaten Pressley recently"? They have not wrestled this year......last year, I believe they may have split 2 matches when Maynard was at Teays Valley. No doubt, Maynard should do very well in the D2 heavyweight scene....

As far as the DIII rankings you also have to consider the remaining teams in Central Oh. and their strength.

woulda, coulda, shoulda
junior high ain't high school
at the time these rankings came out, he had yet to wrestle a high school match, but his own coach ranked him about blacka, a district qualifier, and all but one other 112 pound wrestler. (not saying the kid shouldn't eventually be ranked, just that he should have to actually wrestle in high school before he is)

the coaches association should be embarrassed by hammons obvious bias and give the responsibility to another coach

I don't know... I'm all for a little bias this early in the season. Put your kids out there. Believe in your team. As the season rolls along, these rankings will change, but they will always remain opinion. Believe me, the kids read these and love to see their names in print -- it's part of the fun -- but they know they have to prove it on the mat and they will, or they won't, as the season rolls along. I know there is a kid or two from West who are still waiting patiently on the D1 individual polls and even I hope to see them on there.

you are for bias?
how is that fair to the kids who bust there butts and are the victims of this bias?
sounds like you might be a little biased for the person doing them.
it is exactly because kids see and read these in the paper that they should be as fair and objective as possible

also, they don't change much. look at last year, much of the season kids were ranked while not wrestling for months due to injury at weights they never did make. see that is the problem with having a bias, it is hard to change ones prejudices
(just like it's hard for you to admit you were wrong for jumping all over me earlier in this thread)

Once again.....these rankings will only be as good as the quantity/quality of information provided by the member coaches.....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the D1, D2, D3 coaches reps are simply supposed to compile all the info as provided by the other coaches. If very few of the coaches participate, then the reps have little information to go on.

This time of the year, wrestling coaches are already stressed for time....they don't have time to peruse these boards looking for all the results (that 's a job for us wrestling fans:)). However, there is no excuse for not sending at least one weekly email update to the district rep providing info on each coach's team. Or at the very least, delegate that job to an assistant or a parent booster.

I'm doing everything in my power to collect data on my own so when coaches do advise me of a wrestler - like a number of coaches have - I can ask things like... "Has he seen so-and-so?" "I appreciate the nomination but right now I have two state placers and a state alternate in the lead. I have the kid you mentioned as fifth...has he seen the fourth best or any of the other thre?" "I have your kid in the one spot for now, I hope things continue that way for your wrestler." Or questions such as...

When I type my rankings, you can gauruntee I will give a paragraph as to why I rank the way I do. The best thing I can come up with is concistency.

Mat Shark... 26 schools in Central District D2, 14 varsity kids on most teams.... That's a lot of kids. Not a lot of complete results being posted... no individual dual meet results... no way for any coach to know who all of the front runners are. Put out what you've got and what you know and change it as the season rolls. No bias here for anyone doing the rankings (all I know about Olentangy coaches is that they stood between me and my kid's matches for the entire tournament -- not gonna earn 'em any bias from me), except that SOMEONE is doing them this week. The only little bit of positive bias I have is for any coach who believes in his team. Ranking is a lot of work on top of their full time jobs and coaching jobs. All I'm saying is start with something, then make changes. And again, I really am bored and ready for interesting reading any time you'd like to put some rankings out. You know wrestling and wrestlers (more of them, in fact, than coaches who don't work the off season if you're still the same Mat Shark you used to be... who knows....) Rank some kids... put some more names out there.
