Salem Quakers 2012 - Johnson takes over for Kopachy

Staff member said that he was going to teach a computer class or two and have several study halls or "duties"...that sounds pretty made up to me if that is true. Besides Salem already has a Career Based Intervention Teacher and having one is more than enough so there is no justification of having two. This was a complete football hire, which again I don't disagree with but there needs to be transparency between the superintendent, board and residents of the community. If they are going to stay in NBC you needed someone of Kopachy or Johnson's stature to make sure you don't get embarassed but they will wont win more than a few games so does that justify giving him this job? that is my question.

I checked with some people I know and I got the same response as Southbender that the teaching job is in a way "created". Kind of interesting - will have to wait and see the reality.

Don't know the scrimmages but the paper said that midnight madness is Friday night at Reilly Stadium. Open to the public

I think the interview occurred during the midnight madness practice last Friday night, thus it could have been anywhere from around 11:30 pm to 2 a.m. ....might explain some of the lethargy. I have heard good things so far (about him); we shall see. I have no idea how this team is going to be. I think they can be 5-5, possibly 6-4; or on the other hand they could be 2-8. Not sure how many wins you can get with a soph QB.

If anything, we know we can expect a lot of useless coach speak in future interviews :). He used a TON, lol

I pegged them at 5-5 again when I was talking to someone recently, I don't see it varying by more than a game either way (and I'd assume 4-6 before 6-4)

I did not go to the Salem/Crestview scrimmage, but a friend I talked to very briefly told me that Crestiew scored six TD's. He said Salem was ineffective on offense but did not say if Salem scored.

going to be a very long year in quaker land. Johnson came in late and had a hard time putting together a staff and on top of all that, they have significantly less talent then they did a year ago. That crestview scrimmage tells you everything that you need to know..bad defense and probably an even worse offense against a Div V team...a very good one but Crestview is suppose to be down a little this year too.
They might win a game or two at most in the NBC, which was a horrible decision..thank your superintendent for that one. So in conference they will be 1-6? However they might be able to win 2 games out of conference. United and Liberty could be victories, but Niles will smash them. So 3-7 is not unattainable but to be brutally honest they could easily be 1-9 or 0-10.
Anyone who picks more than 3 victories for this team is being unrealistic. Alliance, Louisville, West Branch, Marlington, Minerva, and Niles will smash Salem. Carrollton and Canton South are suppose to be much improved which means they are going in the opposite direction as Salem. All that spells bad news

Against Crestview the starters gave up 2 or 3 touchdowns and we did not score. I'm sure their JV's piled on a few more. And yes, it was not pretty at all; the offensive line is miles behind.

Last night was much better vs. Liverpool with Salem wining the first half 20 - 6 in game-like conditions. The second half was played in an overtime format and was even for the starters.

No question they have a long way to go, especially the line, but there were some good things out there last night.

Go Quakers!!
