Goes back to the conversation I believe hoops and I were having during the draft. A comment was made about Kiper/McShay's board/projections. Doesn't mean a hill of shit if it isn't Heckerts board/projections.

Every GM has a different player slotting/ranking on their board at some point. Hughes, as an example, may have been slotted higher on the Browns board than most. I may not always AGREE with some of the picks but, at this point, I'm not going to question them.

People were excited when the Browns hired Holmgren....Now when he's building the same type of team that he took to a SUPER BOWL/had success with everyone bitches. As it has been mentioned before, look at the WR's Holmgren had in Seattle. None of them were pro bowlers yet they worked well within the scheme.

And I don't think this will change as far as their view of the WR's go. I really think they think it was the QB and not the receivers that were the problem. I'd have to say it was some of both. McCoy isn't a starting QB but some of these receivers aren't that good either.

Holmgren was fired as Seattle's GM after going 31-33 in 4 years. He made the Super Bowl as a coach, not an exec.
A few days ago, CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman, writing on the draft trade that allowed the Browns to switch first-round spots with Vikings by giving up three later draft picks, said that Cleveland “bought what the Vikings were cooking and suckers were born.”

The reason for the trade in the first place was so that the Browns could be assured that Alabama running back Trent Richardson would be available for them to take, and Freeman hears that that the Vikings were bluffing about other teams' interest in moving into their No. 3 spot.

Wrote Freeman: “Cleveland was convinced at least several teams were prepared to leap them when by all accounts that wasn't going to happen. Even one day later, some teams around the league remain totally perplexed at the Browns giving up three picks to move one spot when they didn't have to.”

Good QB's make their receivers look better. An upgrade at receiver would be nice, but if you look at the championship level teams, elite receivers are not needed.

Didnt the browns do this a few years ago too? Basically flipping spots with someone? Maybe in getting Staph Sgt winslow?

I think they gave up a second round pick to move up 1 spot to get Winslow.

That is what I thought...and if I remember right the similiar talk was that they got duped in thinking someone else was gonna get him.

I think it was the Lions that tricked them that year. We can't get into situations where we pick one spot behind NFC North teams :)

Yeah browns were pwned back in 04 for winslow. Mainly bc Botch Davis had a hard on for all Miami players.

the browns were duped in 04 for winslow in giving up a second round pick. this year, the picks the browns gave up were so insignificant, you might as well secure the guy you want and eliminate any doubts in the process. besides they got that fourth rounder back by trading back with the broncos

I completely agree but I also don't think McCoy was COMPLETELY to blame. I wasn't a fan of him and never thought he'd take this team to a championship but he wasn't totally at fault. I think we'll have a better guage of just how good/bad these receivers are this year.

Brees doesn't. Still don't think he has a "true" #1. Sure, Colston would be a #1 on the Browns (who wouldn't?) but not on many other teams, imo.

Agreed. When your QB is that good, it's safe to say "WRs are dime a dozen."

Saints definitely don't have elite WRs, but they're pretty damn good. Colts did, though, and I wouldn't take any receiving core in the NFL over the Giants' receivers (when they had Manningham).

You need good/great receivers if you want to win a Super Bowl.

I've been laughing since last Thusrday night...so many head scratchers, it still hasn't sunk in that THAT was the draft they had, with 2 1st round picks and 13 total picks. SMH.

We gave up a 5th and a 7th round pick for Trent Richardson. Are you seriously bitching?

We basically got the 4th round pick back when we traded down in the 3rd round.
