Anyone ever buy their warranties or actually use the warranty? Finally purchasing my tv tomorrow and a 3 year warranty is $30 cheaper then at the store.

Squaretrade is reputable. I don't usually buy warranties but if I did Squaretrade would be one of the places I'd look.

I don't either but for a tv I will. I want to get at least 3 or 4 years out of it. And I have a $30 off code that I just got emailed to me.

My theory is this: Unless you plan on moving the tv a few times, it's a waste of money. Electronics, generally, fail sooner rather than later. The store will usually cover all for 90 days, and the mfr usually for the remainder of the year (at least on parts). That's more than sufficient. You need only look at the ridiculous margins on warranties to see how overpriced they are. Your tv will more than likely still be going strong after 8+ years.

And I know the thought process - $200 on a $1200 tv is "good" insurance and piece of mind. Reality is probably 1 out of 50 warranties are claimed, if that. You've got a 2% chance of losing $1200, vs a 100% chance of losing $200. If you make that bet in Vegas you're an all-day sucker.

I don't buy warranties. I've gotten burned once - net net I'm way ahead.

No warranties here.

I also think that only getting 3-4 years out of a tv is terrible. Why not more? I have had a tv for 8 years and still going strong. It's had moves from Ohio to Kentucky to South Dakota to Ohio. No problems. Take care of your stuff and that'll happen.

No reason why electronics can't last for awhile.

Like I said, I don't buy them but if you're inclined to buy a warranty Squaretrade is not a bad option at all.

I had a Zune that was covered under them that I bought off Ebay and it needed fixing once and it wasn't a hassle at all.

I've bought from them, been a few years though...never used.

Bought one for plasma TV like 4 years ago, and bought one for PS3, also around 4 years ago..

It's $45 for 3 years and $60 for 4 years. It's not like best buy where you are paying in the hundreds for a warranty. I'll definitely spend a little bit more money to get piece of mind after the 1 year warranty. Electronic's aren't made to last these days.

Exactly the kind of customer they are looking for. Looks like Squaretrade has marketed and priced themselves properly.

You can sometimes find cheaper coupons on retailmenot. I bought an extended warranty for my Roomba and it came out to 20 or so

Have you ever dealt with any customer service? Bitch and moan enough and you'll get what you want, customer is always right.

Good friend of mine made a woman at Microsoft cry when his xbox broke - needless to say they sent him a new one.

I'd rather pay $40 then have to bitch out some customer service. Just not that kind of person.

Yeah, that's bush league. You can certainly get what you want from a CS rep without having to go so far as to make her cry.
