Being hungover is usually due to being dehydrated... so anything that hydrates you would help.

Thus, Gatorade and Pedialyte would be frontrunners.

You don't drink. Nobody finds your advice credible.

Hope this helps.

I just stay drunk, therefore I never get a hangover.

And the world is such a brighter, more happy place when you're not afflicted with the dark curse of sobriety.

Works on Tapatalk. I blame this minor league website.

Also, anyone who passed basic 9th grade health class could tell you how to "cure" a hangover.

What if said person failed 9th grade health class? (or didn't go to 9th grade)

Tylenol is the worst choice after a night of drinking. Alcohol shifts the metabolism of tylenol to a toxic metabolite. #1 cause of acute liver failure in this country is tylenol, so shifting even more of the drug towards its toxic metabolite is never a good idea.

And actually Ibuprofen does nothing to you liver, it can affect the kidneys. It constricts the blood supply to the kidneys causing decreased perfusion. Usually its not enough to effect you, the only people who need to worry about it are those who already have kidney failure or kidney problems.

Pedialyte, Gatorade, Hoist (My preferred method) are all good choices. Ibuprofen for the headache, Caffeine helps. If you know a Doctor, have them give you a Rally Pack IV and you'll feel a 100 times better.

I thought ibuprofen/advil in general by themselves weren't very good on the liver. Didn't know the thing about Tylenol though.

It says right on the bottle that Tylenol may cause liver damage. Not on ibuprofen.

Acetaminophen is more hepatotoxic than ibuprofen. Alcohol is believed, but not empirically proven to worsen that effect.

I avoid Tylenol at almost all costs, I don't find it to be as effective, and I like my liver functioning properly.

Ibuprofen is only dangerous to the liver in sever overdose situations or when you already have a severely damaged liver. Tylenol is much worse on the liver. Actually the FDA recently changed its recommendations for the daily intake of Acetaminophen. It should no longer exceed 3000mg (6 extra strength tabs) in 24 hours. Used to be 4000 mg.

What usually gets people into trouble is the use of Tylenol on top of prescription pain killers. Many Rx pain killers already have tylenol in them (Vicodin, Norco, Lortab, Lorcet, Percocet, Ultracet and many others all have tylenol in them).

I tell all my patients to talk to me before they take ANY over the counter products because a lot of interactions can be easily avoided.
