Yep Columbus' best pro athlete is nearly gone. With Final 4, Spring practice and a horridible Jackets team nobody seems to care.
All the best to 61 you represented Columbus well good luck in whatever city you find yourself.

Always have a place in my sports-fan heart for Nash. He never did anything dumb, never publicly trashed the team (despite the organization being a joke) or city, and seemed like an all-around good ambassador. Best of luck wherever you end up.

No, but it's 99.9% he'll be traded.

No superstar in the draft to put next to him?

There are good young guys, yeah, but after this winter when the team was actively and openly trying to trade him but didn't find enough value on the market, even drafting the next Ovechkin wouldn't keep him.

Guess I'm missing something...he's already under contract and a top pick is coming...why not take another stab at building around him

I think it's 50/50 if they trade him - it really depends what pick they get and what kind of package a team is offering.

Honestly, i'd try and make a deal for Parise. I doubt he's on their radar, but i'd do everything possible to keep Nash in OH.

They're not going to trade him for nothing so i don't think it's a given.

Til the ink dries hes still a CBJ but I think a team will go out early that had high expectations and say a Rick Nash could have got us to the next level and put together something for him is all I was getting at.

I hope they trade him. Nash is a class act and he deserves to go to a contender or at least a team that can compete.

i know what you meant - i just don't think it's a given yet. I really think it depends what pick they get in the draft and if there are any free agents they can sign

I'd like to see him on Nashville - they'd be deadly with scoring threats. But i'm happy as long as he stays in the west.

I'm not sure if we can get a decent FA here anymore.

I'm not a cap genius - but do they have the money to sign Parise?

Their cap situation isn't great. They have about $3mil in cap space this season, $17.7m next season, but they also have 12 guys on roster now that will be RFA/UFA after this year so they'll have a lot of space to fill and not a ton of cash to do it. Parise is probably a minimum $6.5m cap hit so without losing Nash's $7.8m hit, I don't know how they'd get that done and still have enough money left to field a fourth line.

Got it - Also, are they going to cut mason? Seems their no name back ups are better

They better. He's getting so massively overpaid. Mason's (14-26-3, 3.43 GAA) cap hit of $2.9m is within $500k of Carey Price (26-27-11, 2.41), Corey Crawford (28-17-6, 2.75), Pekka Rinne (41-17-8, 2.42), and Semyon Varlamov (25-23-3, 2.59). Not world beaters (except Rinne), but certainly serviceable. Mason is anything but.

And oh yeah, Mike Smith (34-18-10, 2.33), Tomas Vokoun (25-17-2, 2.51), Jonathan Quick (33-21-11, 1.93), Jimmy Howard (33-15-3, 2.15) all have lower cap hits ... by more than $500k ... than Mason.

Love Jimmy Howard - if bruins lose i hope he gets the cup.

Anyways - i could CBJ keeping Nash if they get anything but the number #1 overall pick.

I always forget C-bus has a NHL team, until somebody mentions Nash.
