Depends. I have some ties that look retarded if they have anything but a full or double Windsor knot. Some that look good with a four in hand and since its the mucheasier knot, that's my preferred. Granted since I started my new job and don't work 30% of my time in a partner's office, I almost never wear one now.

Can someone tell me the difference between the F-I-H, DW,HW, and Pratt? I mean, besides the fact that they're tied different?

Like I said, I like the bigger knot.

Show up to work one day with nothing but a tie on.

Good point about the type of tie. I remember back in the 80's the four in hand or half Windsor worked perfect for that depending on the tie. You know those skinny leather ties that were so cool back then.

Business casual. A tie would be dangerous since we machines that would kill you if it caught your tie.

I wear ties a decent amount (I prefer jacket, no tie, and I refuse to wear a tie without a jacket--just looks funny). I always go half-windsor. Four-in-hand gives a knot that looks too angular to me, while the full windsor gives a knot that can be large. The half windsor, in my book, gives a square, even knot that isn't too bulky.

I don't usually wear a tie, but the few I own are already tied hanging on a hangar in my closet. When I need it I just slip it over my head and tighten it up.

I'm wearing vibrams, shorts and a polo at my office today. Hope this helps.

It depends on the material of the tie.

I prefer a double Windsor so long as it's not of thick material.
