What was your college degree? Did it help you get an immediate job coming out of college? Was it good pay?
I'm going back to get my degree finally, and I am trying to decide what degree I want to go after. Any thoughts? I was thinking of something in a. sports management b. computer systems management/programming/etc. or c. open to suggestions.

Industrial Engineering Yes and Yes.
If I did it again, I would consider petroleum engineering.
Of the ones you listed I would go for computer engineering/science.

BA in Journalism (broadcast). Would not recommend. But, I went straight to grad school and got an MS in Applied Communication Research (market research), and had a job offer four months before I graduated (this was in mid-2008). Would recommend, although you need to be conscious of costs.

My first degree was marketing it sucked trying to get a job with it so i went back and got an acct degree and had no problem finding a job. I wouldnt recommend MIS because most colleges dont have current technology so companies hire people with degress from itt tech who has the most current technology before someone with a mis degree from osu. I would pick a major that is a specialization that has a career directly related to it.

If you want a good job, dont do sports management.
I recommend anything in the business, engineering, or computer field.

Computer Science.
Yes, I got a job right out of school.
No, pay wasn't great but it was a good entry level job and my next job paid almost 2x.

My main concern is getting a salaried job out of college with good pay. At this point, I'm leaning towards a computer information technology degree with a minor in either chinese or spanish. The CIT major has great pay starting out, and computer's should be around for a while. It's just a matter of pulling the trigger.

Ive had friends graduate from the MIS Programs at OSU, OU, and ITT Tech. OSU and OU are almost always teaching dated material. The codes they teach are useless by the time students graduate. ITT Tech on the other hand updates their technology more regularly. All of my friends have found jobs but the one who graduated from ITT Tech had more options and found work much faster. A lot of Technology companies dont want to have to train you for 3 months to learn new code so these companies hire people who have prior experience somewhere else or know the current codes being used. There are a few companies that will take the time to train their employees but in todays competive environment its easier for them to hire someone who was layed off and avoid the cost of training. I know my friends who graduated from OSU last fall actually went and took a few courses at Devry when he was done so he had more current Codes to list on his resume. He actually just got hired by Batelle a few weeks ago.ITT Tech is ****, hope this helps.
Now this field is completely different then pretty much everything else so OSU and OU are much better for everything else obviously.

Finance.
Yes got a job right away (out of internship). Good pay = no, 100% commission investment/insurance sales.
Left that job in late 08, got new job in early 09 (5-6 month search) -- good pay = yes for my age/experience/degree

I graduated early with a B.A. in Religious Studies. I spent 9 months working as a paralegal at a law firm (decent pay--I think about $45,000/yr coming out) before heading off to law school.
