Talking to my friends that are Steelers' fans, they all seem to be saying "hate to see our old favorites go, but the new crop is here." It makes sense.

honestly a lot of teams(including us at times when it comes to paying vets) would have let him go without paying him what we did on his last contract

Thats the difference between the greatest pro sports franchise and your team . Hines will always be a Steeler . We love him and if you read his comments he loves the Steelers organisation . We are a team and teammates help eachother out . If he were a selfish self centered person like yourself he may have been gone last year . Hines can fit in somewhere as a 3rd wideout . He is fearless over the middle and can teach younger wideouts work ethic and better ways to be a teammate. He helped our guys because its in his DNA . Its refreshing for a wideout to be so selfless. You rip him ,but youd be lucky to have him mentoring your guys . We will miss him and I wish he would still be with us because he is far to good a football player to go to 99% of the teams .St Louis should try to pick him up as they are young and have a young QB.

^^^^ actully it doesnt matter who your team is . You called him a washed up has been . Then you later implied he shouldnt have been such a help to the younger wideouts. Your attitude is more in tune with a steel mill or factory worker who wont help the new guy out . Or in pro sports your attitude might be more in line with Randy Moss or T.O.
I think the guy has more to give and just because he is not as fast of athletically skilled as he once was doesnt mean he doesnt have significant atributes he can serve to another team . Im sad he is gone,we will misss him for sure .. He is the best blocking wideout in league history . The guy is what a team player is all about . Your attitude and comments you made towards Hines leads me to believe you are self centered and wouldnt be a good team player yourself . Dont worry you fit into most of the American mainstream ..

I don't like memories of Jerry Rice on the Raiders or Randy Moss on the Titans but I cannot fathom being a major D1 college star and a professional athlete with tremendous success for many years and think about not playing anymore. Seriously, like, hate or tolerate Ward....can anyone seriously argue this guy doesn't have some kind of special passion for football. I loved him being a Steeler all these years, but if he wants to keep playing what he has always done....why would anyone care?

I played HS and college ball and I forgot more football then you will ever know . Its real easy to call people names on the net isnt it . Instead of just argueing you want to revert to the 3rd grade level as usual .Ill try not to stoop to your level again and say Hines is still better than most Wideouts in the league . The Steelers are just loaded up now and he is at the end of his career . We let 4 mil a year go and now we are under the salary cap . Hines only lost his starting job last year and only because we have some studs at the position ... Why cant you understand that he would be a very nice assett to a young QB . There is more to being a wide out then the 40 yd dash . I cant remember a guy so fearless to go over the middle then him . What reciever blocks better than him downfield ? Do you want me to list all the receivers he's not better than? That's a pretty long list. This isn't 2004 buddy. And I mentioned the fact that he lost his job because Wallace, Sanders, and Brown are studs. If Hines was still the #1, the Steelers offense would NOT be explosive. Yeah, he's nice to have to block or to go over the middle, but at some point he needs to make huge plays and he can NOT do that ANYMORE. The fact of the matter, the biggest asset he is, is as a mentor. He might as well just become a damn coach.
