I see where you are coming from, but is paying a great RB all that money really worth it? Look at AP.

Can't speak for him but I'd say QB, LT, DE (elite pass rushers) and shutdown CB's. The league has proven that top tier RB's are not a necessity. New Orleans had a top 10 rushing attack, even with Brees gaudy numbers, and they did it by committee.

Typically, the teams with the perceived "elite" RB's (Minny/Tennessee/JAX) are losers. There are a few exceptions with Ray Rice & Arian Foster.

i think QB is a given - other than that i agree, i'd pay the most to protect my elite QB and to guys who get after the QB on def. Giants D line is only going to get better, well worth the money to have guys that force mistakes.

That's why if you ask most NFL GM's who the "big 3" are if you want to build a championship contender, they used to tell you "QB, LT & shutdown QB." I think it may have changed to "QB, LT & elite passing rushing DE" after the Giants model. You never hear "WR or RB" in that conversation. Those guys are much easier to find.

I stand corrected. I thought WR would be higher on the list.

What is the Average Salary of NFL Players

As mentioned above, the position a player plays in a team and how instrumental he is for the performance of the team is the major determinant of what he earns. So it does not come as a surprise that amongst the NFL player salaries, Quarterbacks get paid the most, to begin with. But right now we will see what is the minimum these players get. The minimum a player on the active roster (for at least 3 games) gets is $295,000, according to the NFL Players Association. This money is guaranteed for such players. To add to that, the average signing bonus is $1.34 million for all players. There are a couple more heads within the NFL salaries 2010, like salary based on the team and some other bonuses apart from the signing bonus. As per these regulations let us take a look at what is the average NFL salary by position.
  • Quarterback - $1,970,982
  • Defensive End - $1,583,784
  • Offensive Line - $1,267,402
  • Defensive Tackle - $1,223,925
  • Cornerback - $1,193,666
  • Linebacker - $1,175,788
  • Wide Receiver - $1,054,437
  • Running Back - $957,360
  • Safety - $947,847
  • Punter / Kicker - $868,005 - $1,051,131
  • Tight End - $863,414

That's why paying RBs is not worth it. He is retiring at 28 years old.

Got his money and got out. He was a hard runner though, no doubt the style took its toll on his body.

It would be great if the Redskins lost their a 1st rounder in one of the next 3 years. The trade would be null and the Browns would be the only buyers. RGIII to Cleveland after all, for their #4 and a pack of chewing gum.

The saints didn't lose their #1 pick, so I doubt the skins will.
