Yeah he could turn out fine with zero issues, but based on what I've read/heard regarding his father I'm glad OSU passed.

His father won't have anything to do with Neal once he hits campus. He's not going to class for him, going to practice, etc. His dad won't be around the program. And plus nd doesn't have boosters going and giving players money, cars, tattoos etc. so honestly I'm not worried one but about his dad

Should've stopped after 'program', since you made a valid point. Unfortunately, your emotions got the best of you, and you ended up pulling a sleeper. :(

Ohio State had daddy problems as recently as Ray Small, no booster noise, tattoos, money...he was a huge distraction and was often in the dog house. He may turn out fine, but being gun shy about one that walks like and quacks like a duck is fine too.

Glad Ohio State passed regardless of how he turns out.

Oh wait so his dad isn't going to class with him? Thank you Captain Obvious.

If I were an ND fan I'd be glad to get him, he is a damn solid recruit. Again, as an OSU fan and considering our past issues, I would prefer to deal with as little negativity as possible. I'm not saying he will bring negative things with him to ND, but anything can happen.

I wasn't just saying Ohio st. It happens all over the country but nd is different. All the players are on campus with the student body and don't live off campus which is a big difference. I can understand Ohio st not wanting him cause of his dad with there problems recently. I'm just happy he ended up at nd considering we need play makers at wr

1) Agreed with killer's post above mine, which is a common occurrence.
2) Don't think ND is innocent completely on the giving thing. They may be different academically (although Charlie got 4 exceptions per class when I was there I think it was-- and yes I personally know some of the exceptions so don't dispute it)-- but Brian Smith sure as hell didnt buy his brand new Escalade when he was on campus his Sophomore year

I wasn't aware of this, but I'm not surprised. ND should give kids who are close, but do not qualify, a chance--look at the success stories like Tony Rice and Chris Zorich, players who wouldn't be admitted under the present standards. JMO.

I don't think anyone is claiming 100% of the kids are brainiacs. Plenty of them scored like 21s on their ACTs, hell didn't Lynch score like a 17?

That's really not the argument I use. It's more like: 100% of these kids graduate within four years if they don't go to the NFL or transfer.

As for Brian Smith's Escalade...I have no evidence clearly, and neither does anyone else here. I do know that it is pretty impossible to hide illegal cars these days so I highly doubt someone simply gave him an Escalade. More likely the money was given to his parents, but then again there are departments there to handle this situation, no? Hell even Pryor's cars were 100% legal. Smith is from the rich suburb of Overland Park, KS (median family income: ~$91,000; percent living below poverty line: 3.9%) and did go to private school. And his dad, Billie Smith, does have a Notre Dame degree so I would bet that he is above the median in terms of income. Just saying, things to consider.

Sooo I guess this means that there's a fair chance that Brian Smith's parents had the wherewithal to get him that Escalade after all?

He'll all of a sudden appear 2 weeks later with his diploma, and say "a death in the family" was the reason for his silence throughout this process.

Maybe he's catching a ton of shit about not picking Arizona? Richrod basically hired the staff at his high school to get him to sign there. Would you go to a school in which everyone hates you for not picking the in-state school? Not saying that's the case, but if I'm grieving the deaths of two cousins and then everyone at me school is giving me shit constantly....fuuuuck that place I'm out.
