I was reading about Scott High School's awesome renovation and reopening and came across these pictures:

http://www.toledoblade.com/gallery/Scott-High-School-Reopens

WHAT THE FUCK!!?? How is a public school allowed to essentially endorse a President?

Am I the only one who thinks this is wrong? Is this no different that Vladimir Lenin or Mao Zedong having a picture in every classroom in other countries?

Yeah Scott is 99% black. Any white kid in the district goes to Central Catholic or another one of the parochials.

Yeah it's a bit odd to see this. I would bet the ranch that had a 99% white school painted a mural of Ronald Reagan on the school walls in the mid-80's, the MSM would have been all over it.

This is reminiscent of the murals of Marxist leaders painted in public places in many leftists countries.

I realize these kids are excited and proud that Obama is America's first black POTUS...I get it. But the fact that the school administration permitted the mural considering it is a public school financed by the taxpayer, it seems a bit inappropriate.

Every classroom used to have a picture of the president and it'd change when a new one was elected. If he loses this year then next year it ought to be painted over.

Black school, first black president--maybe the administrators felt it would be an inspiration? I'm all for anything that may keep these kids in school, which could in turn lead to a job someday.

It's sad that all they have to do is just finish school...because at that point, they'll get a job over anyone else even if they're less qualified, just because of their skin color.

Like seriously, that's not enough inspiration for you?!

It's very sad!!! I believe the public h.s. graduation rate is less than 50% in Toledo, and THAT is pathetic. All I'm saying here is even if it keeps one more kid in school, that's one less person on our dime after he graduates, know what I mean?

Truly remarkable insight there by ccrunner.

He went about as far as he could without spelling something incorrectly.

TPS is a remarkably bad school system.

When I was at Libbey coaching, the school principal explained to my why TPS closed the school.

Libbey used to have ~50% attendance and the classrooms themselves were rather unsafe and generally not conducive for learning. They decided to take a hardline stance and make the thugs go to an online charter school, Phoenix Academy. The attendance shot up to 93% and the test scores went through the roof. But the enrollment dropped and TPS said they weren't being effective. So retarded.

I did my student teaching at Toledo Scott and was offered a job. The Scott Coaching Staff where some good guys. Scott back in the early 70s was about 95% Black ... I had a great time at SCOTT and lots of memories and funny situtation.

I helped a one of the football player one day (flat tire) and the next day in the coaches office was a complete auto stereo sytem in a boxs addressed to Coach Belly really cool but I have to give it away.

Coming from a poor family and living in the projects myself, I knew a lot about the kids culture and siutation that helped. Also being a vet and serving with many Black soldiers gave me a some cred and knowledge.

I enjoyed my time at Toledo Scott

I agree with you. If it motivates them, who really cares? Toledo schools are horrific. I think you are pretty accurate with the graduation rate and I believe that Scott has the lowest graduation rate in all of TPS. It is around 30%. Truly sad.

Being forced by the government ≠ voluntarily painting. Nice try though.
