Was looking at the MSL thread and they were talking about their league honors per weights.
What is the OCC criteria?
Will there be anything even posted this yr?
I dont think there was squat out there anywhere last yr!

I would hope that the OCC would do something. There are some excellent wrestlers in the OCC and it would be a shame for those guys not to get any recognition for their efforts. I know you have sectionals, districts & states, but it is nice to see league honors as well. All the other sports do it, wrestling should not drop the ball on this.

The MSL Buckeye does do it, but even they don't get the word out as much as they should. (IMHO) With that said, they normally do vote on 1st, 2nd & 3rd teamers from each weight class. Maybe it's more about the local newspapers don't seem to give wrestling much print at all.

You're correct....not much, if any media recognition for the MSL honors. However, there is a very nice post-season league banquet where all the presentations are made for each of the weight class champs in front of a huge crowd. It really is very well done......

The problem is there is a manipulation of the system sometimes. Coaches have their wrestlers compete at a weaker weight class or dont bump up for conference duals so they can get their 1st team or whatever (I know sometimes its for points that helps them win a dual. But, other times it makes no sense). So they avoid the better wrestlers for a better piece of paper or plaque. The great thing about wrestling is that it all works out in the end. You have to finally compete against the one you've avoided in the end. On another point some the OCC coaches dont post any results at the duals they host. They come on here and say things like won but are hush hush on actual results. Why?

When you try to arrive at individual honors in what is a team format, you will always run into problems. MOST coaches try to win these duals....and make whatever changes are necessary to do so. You're right though, sometimes there are moves that are made that make you wonder.

That's cool, sounds like the league and coaches have it squared away pretty good, now just getting the local papers to print the stuff.

The OCC does do a 1-3 team but it just gets 0 pub.
I dont even think it got posted on here.
I agree about the bumping and running.
We bump or cut to face the best competition possible for duals and tourneys. Unless the team league title is at stake, we are going to do what it takes to win the dual first for the team.

The 1-3 team OCCs were printed in the dispatch last year but not until after the state finals. I'm not sure why as the placements were based on dual performances for the most part.

I have noticed that the teams that aim to face the best competition usually top out the leagues they are in. Those that bump and run to avoid people within the league are not.

Though officially not a league tourny, does anyone have results from the Dublin city championships tonight?

Dublin Coffman beat both Scioto and Jerome. Big matchup was mowery (Jerome) vs king (Scioto) at 220. Very close match until the last 30 seconds king was up 2-1 on top, when mowery tried a roll to get out and got caught and pinned with :04 left. Good match!

My question is say a wrestler is 5-2 at a certain weight and another is 5-0 at that weight but has bumped up twice and is 2-0 there. They havent wrestled eachother all year. Who is 1st team?

My guess would be the kid that is 5-0? Are there common opponents?

For sure...the tougher question would be, the 5-2(5-0 in weight) who bumped beat a kid who didnt at 6-1?

thats what i thought, and yes 5-0 beat wrestler A and 5-2 lost to Wrestler A. Wrestler A doesnt have enough matches at that weight to be ahead of 5-2 though... Confusing, sorry:p

let's say a kid goes 4-0 at 145 and 3-0 at 152, but beat the next top wrestler at each weight, would he be 1st team at both weights?
