A second structure collapses at a casino site, this time Cincinnati. Just over a month ago a parking garage collapsed at the casino in Cleveland. Someone is cutting corners.

As long as the one in Toledo is built perfectly fine and ready soon I don't give a shit what happens to these other ones. But yeah someone is definitely not doing there job.

Yep, just tear them down. This state doesn't need the revenue or thousands of jobs.

What a clusterfuck.

Gotta think this will push back the completion dates.

I'm far from an expert in construction, but would think building something of this scale without any mishaps would be the exception rather than the rule.

Without ANY mishaps...maybe....but a mishap that injures a dozen or so people? This has to be more of an exception and not the rule in construction I would think.

I'll wager these facilities pay out to be a huge jackpot for Ohio in the long run.

They say in the article it's the "same team" of workers. I wonder if just the same construction company or same foreman and work crew?

The casinos will raise a lot of money but get no credit for it

Sounds like the problems with the construction team who gave them the lowest bid not the casinos

Really a vital step in taking us full-circle from govt-handout to poor person and ultimately back to the the govt. Wash, rinse and repeat.

Yes because the only people who gamble are people who receive government handouts. Why do people act like this. If I wanted to go to an osu footballl game and drop a couple hundred on tickets parking and food how is that different then walking into a casino and spending that same amount. Gambling is not going to make people rich but it does provide people another option for entertainment. The casino will create jobs and keep a lot of money that was going out of state in state. The casino will help raise commercial property values in a downtrodden area(Columbus casino). If you don't believe that is true look at Les Wexnar buying up as much of the surrounding area as possible.

The casinos themselves are failures because of a construction error?

I'm in construction management and buildings falling down during construction are NOT a common thing. They're a rare thing. Small issues occur all the time, but nothing of this magnitude. If I heard correctly, the contractor overseeing this project (from our in-house discussions on this) was Messer. A large, reputable company...but a company that subcontracts a lot of their work out.

In our industry, you read about these mishaps and are just thankful everyone survived. The company I work for has been around for over 60 years, is a medium size company and has never had a single workplace fatality. Unfortunately, that is not the norm. Mistakes happen, no matter how good/careful you are.

since like most have pointed out, this is a rare occurrance, its probably a sign of the things to come. wait till we find out people are getting paid off and patrons are being taken into back rooms etc.

Not sure if it's true, but someone told me today they were unsung a really cheap material to cut costs. Not sure if it was a steal or what, but the guy discussing it seemed to be knowledgeable.

Dont know about the one in Cinci, but the parking deck level that collapsed in Cleveland happened at the building they are remodeling to be the casino temporarily. So, I could see some complications. Its not like they are building it from the ground up and these things are happening.

Also creating thousands of jobs =/= failure.

No matter what you try to say, a construction company's error is not the fault of the casino.
