OK,
My Son has a 2009 G-5 with 54,000 miles on it that intermittantly gets the Passenger seat floorboard soaked! It doesn't smell like antifreeze, so i've ruled out the heater core, I've taken a garden hose and slowly flooded the passenger door, passenger window, around the passenger door, the passenger side of the windshield (from the outside) , and cannot get it to leak. I've located the condensate drain through the firewall, and verified that it is not plugged...
Short of him literally scaring the pee out of someone, does anybody have any other suggestions? I'm totally stumped!

Possible, but unlikely... actual ponding water on that side... Driver's side totally dry.

No beer smell (I know what that smells like from the old days). only firewall penetration is where the condensate line comes out... and that appears to be sealed around it, with the actual drain open (I've had cars where the condensate line plugs, then backs up into the car, but this doesn't seem to be that.)

Well the moisture isn't just going to appear in the middle of the floor. So if it in't the firewall, or leakage from around the windshield or door, and it isn't a hole in the floorboard, your choices are narrowing down pretty quickly.

The same thing happened with my wife's car a couple of years ago, and it was a rubber plug--have your mechanic check ALL the plugs if you take it in.LJ;1063823 wrote:missing rubber plug in the firewall?

Few years ago my honda had something like that. At one point when I was turning onto the highway i actually felt the very cold water draining from some place.
It came from the condensation or something form the AC unit....there was some filter or whatnot located behind the glove box that was clogged pretty badly and would let the water to drain out onto the ground. Doubt that is what is wrong with your car though as he probably isnt running the AC so in reality I have been no help to you at all.

Due to the sustantial amount of water that comes and goes on the floorboard, the entire interior of car feels damp... In warmer temps, the inside of the windshield will even condense due to this humidity. The headliner shows no signs of sagging or bagging down (yet). There is so much water at times that it can't hardly be a hole in the floorboard, or it would drain out... Also, the car is barely 3 years old... so I can't imagine it rusting through already... I will look into any kind of plug set higher on the wall or floor where it may splash or run it, but not be able to run out...

As I understand it, the A/C and defrost both use the same condensate pan, but pull air from opposite sides of the heater core... That being said, your idea is not that outlandish, but I think this is more connected to a leak somewhere as oppsed to mechanical failure... From what I have been able to get out of my son, it seems to be weather related... but he has no specifics.

Weather related as in its either really cold and he needs to use the defrost or really hot and needed to use the AC?
the mechanic said the filter in my car was back behind the glove box and a pain in the ass to get to. It was a substantial amount of moisture that came out of it. I actually felt the water running on my foot when it happened and it was substantial. He said the filter was plugged from leaves and such.
Have you checked the filter or whatnot? Maybe that is all crudded up and not letting the water just go on down through to the ground outside?

Sounds like this has happened on other similar GM models.

had that happen in a 94 plymouth lazer, if i turned right it would dump water onto my feet/legs on the driverside. there was a clog or something that was not letting the water drain properly, when i would turn it would pour out. sometimes spiders nest can even clog it is what i remember the mechanic saying

I drive Fords so I don't have these problems. These are notorious Government Motors problems.

BTW.. I had to pull a Silverado that was stuck at work because his 4x4 wouldn't engage. It's a 2011.. It lasted a year. Quality system there. You'd expect a little more out of a 40,000 truck.LJ;1065055 wrote::laugh::laugh:

Never had a problem on the Silverados i've owned. Only problem I ever had with a GM 4x4 system was when I let someone borrow a blazer I owned and they drove on dry pavement in 4-lo for about 8 miles. Any truck with the electrical 4x4 system can have the same problem, just an FYI.

Maybe the frames shouldn't bend while offroading with a $60k offroading specific truck?
