They give you a way around it if you absolutely have to access Wikipedia: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/English_Wikipedia_SOPA_blackout/Technical_FAQ

It's necessary, though. It needs to piss people off enough that they bombard their representatives with calls and letters letting them know they are against SOPA and PIPA.

I've considered blacking out the OC for a few hours over lunch.

I think the OC does that on its own pretty well.

Pippa?

Just kidding. SOPA/PIPA in their current forms are dumb. People need to rethink their structure.

SOPA and PIPA in their current forms would be the end of the OC.

This could mean the end of the Internet. Not the end of the Internet as we know, but the end of the Internet. It's such an awful bill that I'm amazed it's even being considered.

The biggest problem with this is that they believe that piracy actually affects movie and music sales. I'll admit that I have illlegally downloaded movies and music before, but I also still buy movies and music. If it's a DVD or album that I realy want, I purchase it. The things I download are things I never would have purchased. I think that is true of most who have illegally downloaded movies or music. Not being able to download it for free isn't going to make them go out and purchase it instead.

You post a link to the OC from a video site of an ESPN highlight that has been uploaded by another user without ESPN's permission. Under SOPA/PIPA, ABC/Disney (parent company of ESPN) would have the power tell the government to cut off ad funding to the OC, remove the OC from search results, or sue the OC for "facilitating" pirated content.

I just called Steve Chabot's office to voice my disapproval of this bill. Felt pretty good to call and say that I think SOPA is a terrible idea and that it clearly wasn't thought through fully, and then to have the guy in Chabot's office tell me that Chabot was an original co-sponsor of the bill, but is willing to rethink his stance based on his constituents.

Nice. I plan on calling over lunch.

How does it work, does his secretary answer and you just talk to them?

Ya, it's just a staffer that you get to actually talk to. But I gave my name and phone number and said that if Chabot would like to discuss my viewpoint further with me.

It's going to vary depending on where you live. Each rep has their own line. But here's the list of all the reps and their contact information.

I sent my rep a picture of his wife and said "what are you going to masturbate to if this passes?"

Just got off the phone with Rob Portman's office regarding PIPA. I tried to call Sherrod Brown's office, but I was on hold forever, and then got a voicemail recording. Unfortunately the voicemail box was full.

Rob Portman: (202) 224-3353
Sherrod Brown:
(202) 224-2315

It depends on where you live in Cincy.

West side to a little east of Norwood has Chabot as their rep. East side has Jean Schmidt.

Chabot: 202-225-2216
Schmidt:
202-225-3164
