Who knew?
[LEFT]NORCROSS, Ga. – Angry parents called for an apology after a Georgia elementary school set a math assignment that used questions about slavery and beatings, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Parents of
students at Beaver Ridge Elementary School, Norcross, were outraged after their children brought home a math worksheet featuring questions such as "Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?"

They were also asked, "If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?"

You would think they'd change the questions at some point over the last 100+ years.

Yeah. I mean, it's math class. Those questions are pretty inappropriate for a math problem. It's one thing to teach the kids about slavery but those questions are just stupid.

"Tom has 4 marijuana plants. If each plant yields 6 ounces how many ounces will the entire crop yield?"

You'd never see a question like that in a 3rd grade math class.

Is this one of those trick questions like the 1+1+1 thread?

Saw this on AOL this morning. News report says the math teachers were trying to incorporate social studies concepts into their math homework. Not sure if this is funny or sad.

If Frederick gets 2 beatings per day, how much money should his descendants get in reparations?

Of course not.

Now imagine the outrage...

"Tawana gets $245 a week in welfare. How many Colt 45 40's can she get that week?"

You should. At least it has some use as a real life situation.

No, that's more of a 4th grade level question.

If only our school systems were set up this way...then new potheads would not have to memorize the relationship between grams, ounces, and pounds.

It's a trick question, b/c the 45 and 40 are so close. Kids will get it wrong. I like your thinking.

Tawana is probably black, which means she probably has at least 4-5 kids, from 6 different men.
