Banner needs to assert some control of this situation and tell Shurmur that T-Rich is not to be played until after the bye week. Period.

Shurmur is going to want to play him if he can because he needs to win games because in his mind I am sure he still thinks he has a shot at saving his job.

Banner is the only one who knows he is going to be here next year, so he needs to make the more long term calls like sitting T-Rich.

Taylor should also be held out until after the bye.

There is no sense rushing anyone back at this point that has a long term future with this team because we aren't going anywhere this season.

Not worth the chance of re-injuring themselves so we can have 3-4 wins this year instead of 2-3.

That is not what Pat will want to hear, but tough luck.

The way Richardson ran last week, he needs to get healthy before coming back. He looked timid and lost out there. Hardesty has been decisive and has ran with a pretty good burst.

The true first chess match for Banner/Shurmur, whether or not Richardson plays on Sunday. Shurmur needs him out there to keep his job, Banner needs Richardson to sit out if he wants to keep his long term.

I'm not jumping on you, so don't take it that way, but fuck Shurmur.

If he wants to "keep his job" he might try coming out in a no huddle offense from the shotgun to wake these guys' asses up or maybe a gadget play or maybe going for it on 4th & 1 or, better yet, RUNNING the ball on 2nd & 1 and 3rd & 1, or maybe teaching receivers to run 7 yard routes when it's 3rd & 6...

Shurmur has MORE than fucked himself. If he wanted to play "chess" with Banner (regarding Richardson) he should've thought of this LONG ago before painting himself into this corner with his buffoonery.

No worries about Holmgren, Shurmur or TRich. The Browns Bus will be at the game...so we will win. So let's just worry about the next away game.

While not a big deal, you have to remember at times who your audience is and if you are a Cleveland star athlete wearing a Lebron t-shirt to something like that just invites un-necessary drama.

Being a politician is part of being a star athlete in a way, and you want to make sure you are always endearing yourself to the people you want to come watch you play and buy your jersey.

lol...anyone ever heard Trich talk? He isn't real bright, so I will just chalk this up to being another dumb, clueless athlete. At this point, I don't give a shit if was a full on retard like Rashad Mendenhall or James Harrison....as long as he produces on the field.

Had this hypothetical discussion with my friend. Say the Browns had a legit coach (Harbaugh) this season and Joe Haden plays every game. What do you think the Browns' record would be going into week 8? I might be delusional saying this, but I think the Browns are looking at 5-2 at the minimum.

totally agree. legit coach n haden we are leading the division with ease. weeden has played well enough since the week one debacle, the defense even though i get on them a lot are playing decent. and josh gordon is the most explosive rookie wide receiver in the nfl right now.

I think Shurmur sucks, but I would only give them one more win....the Indy game.

The Philly game was lost because they dropped an interception. The Cincy game maybe....

Remember when there were fans who were upset that the Browns chose running back Trent Richardson over wide receiver Justin Blackmon in the first round of the 2012 draft. In fact, you might have been one of them.

The Browns instead drafted Josh Gordon, a raw but talented receiver, in the second round of the supplemental draft. It looks like that was the right decision so far.

Gordon has been the NFL's most explosive rookie receiver this season and has outplayed Blackmon through seven weeks. Gordon has 14 catches for 333 yards (23.8-yard average) and four touchdowns. Blackmon has 14 receptions for 126 yards (9.0-yard average) and no touchdowns.

Here are some of Gordon's accomplishments:
  • Gordon is leading all NFL rookies in receiving touchdowns (4), receiving yards (333), receptions of 20 yards or longer (5) and ranks fourth in scoring (24) and is tied for fourth in receptions (14).
  • He has an NFL rookie-best 333 receiving yards. He is on pace to set the Browns’ rookie receiving yards record (Kevin Johnson had 986 yards in 1999).
  • After catching a 33-yard touchdown at Indianapolis on Sunday, he became the first Browns rookie to record three consecutive games with a touchdown reception of 30 yards or longer and first NFL rookie to accomplish that feat since Randy Moss did it in four straight games in 1998.
  • With four touchdowns on the season, Gordon is the first Browns rookie to score four or more receiving touchdowns since Andre’ Davis recorded six in 2002.
Gordon has been far from perfect, even during his current hot streak. His drop near the goal line in the fourth quarter Sunday likely cost Cleveland the game. But the Browns were impressed with how he handled that mistake.

"I talked to him and he’s a full-grown man," coach Pat Shurmur said. "He understands what’s going on and he’s hard on himself. I think that tells me that [he’s] got a chance to improve and we’ve seen great improvement from him. I expect that he’ll get better next week.”
