Free agents don't want to come to Cleveland and 2. the front office attitude of "thats fine we don't need them"
On another note, I am watching the NFL Network and they had some mocks up (though free agency hasnt started yet so a lot of things can change) One guy had the Browns trading up for RG3 the other 2 said no way....Washington is willing to do whatever....Lombardi then said " I am not saying that the Browns are going to pick Tannehill at 4 but I am saying that they find Tannehill more appealing than RG3.....also said that if the Browns really want Griffin they should aggressively talk with the Rams RIGHT now while other teams are concentrating on Manning....give them a take it now offer.......now before I get all these " Lombardi is a hack, " comments....I am just putting it out there what was said, not that I agree with the guy, but if what he is saying is true I would be upset to find that H&H find Tannehill appealing
I'm ALL for building through the draft but come fucking on...if they grab a young, affordable OLB (Woodyard-Broncos or Hawthorne, who I mentioned from the Seahawks), a corner (Richard Marshall-Cards or splurge on a Finnegan-Titans) along with a young/vet WR (Garcon) all they need is a RDE (via the draft) and the defense is MORE than legit and YOUNG. Then you work on the offense with draft picks...it's not THAT difficult but I get the feeling he's going to plod along and let this "window" close.
As far as your second comment about Tannehill? Wouldn't surprise me. Instead of biting the bullet and getting the QB, they want to show you how "smart" they are by shining the proverbial "turd." Taking a project like a Tannehill and molding/grooming him into what they want makes them look like "geniuses" IF it pans out. Sometimes these (not only Cleveland's) regimes think too much for their own good.
Keep in mind that Lombardi has seemed to hold a grudge against the Browns ever since they fired him.
