I've always said Lesnar was a "flash in the pan." No real skill just a big ogre that can hammer first and sell PPVs.

I do feel for him regarding his health though. I was actually surprised he came back as soon as he did after his issues.

I'm talking about in MMA. He is and was a great wrestler, but I was never impressed with his all around game.

lol I knew you were going to spew this type of bullshit. MMA stands for mixed martial arts. Wrestling is one of the arts that most fighters come in with. Most of the successful fighters have a wrestling background. Being a 2x NCAA finalist requires skill (amongst other things). Those skills you develop in wrestling transition very well into MMA, or just fighting in general. Kimbo Slice is a flash in the pan fighter, Brock Lesnar is not. If the guy starts at a younger age (MMA wasn't big then), we would be talking about the greatest MMA heavyweight. I wouldn't expect you to understand that though. If Lesnar had started training MMA right out of college he would be scary good, imagine him with high level stand up, he would have been damn near unbeatable.

He lost a lot of time learning how to strike while being sick. He did break Heath Herrings orbital bone though.

I understand completely. No doubt wrestling translates well to MMA, but to be successful in the long haul you need to do a bit of everything. His stand up offense and defense was damn near non existent and it showed.

I wish Lesnar would have started earlier or the disease thing didn't happen, but it still doesn't change my opinion. His career was short lived and he ended up 5-3. IMO thats a flash in the pan.

He's similar to Randy Couture in the sense he only fought big fights. Their records don't do them justice.

Randy Couture is known as one of the best all time and his standup was never really that good. He was a wrestler/GnP guy.

Tito Ortiz was one of the best LHW of all time and his stand up sucked.

Damian Maia is a great MW and his stand up sucks.

Cheik Kongo is a dang good HW and his ground game sucks balls.

Yes, it is always better to be well rounded, but you can be a great MMA fighter with being AMAZING in one aspect and pretty suspect at the others.

Now, you look at the current champions and you have guys that are great at both the standup and ground fighting (Dos Santos, Jones, Silva, GSP, Edgar, Aldo, Cruz...all good at both the standup and ground game). But that does not mean you "have no skills" if you are amazing at one aspect and suck at the others.

Yeah that is obvious. I should have used better words so my comment wasn't taken so literal.

Lesnar relied on his insane strength and wrestling and it only got him so far. The HW division was rather 'meh' when he got his start and it has gotten much better. When forced to stand and bang he got owned. If he improved his striking a little and was about 5 years younger he'd be set. Maybe he came back too early? I don't really know the recovery time after getting a foot of your colon removed.

He's what....in his mid 30s? Could you imagine him now if he started in his early 20s?
