I'll go ahead and start with The Ohio State University. There's just something about the Scarlet, there's something about the gray, but when you mix the two and its a combination of both Scarlet and Gray, there's nothing better.

You may be reading that and thinking "Hey sleeper, I thought you went to a B1G school, but you sound like an SEC graduate". Look, we can sit here and debate about the "academics" of the SEC or we can talk about college football.

Another thing I love is that my coach has never negligent killed anyone, hell, none of the coaches at OSU ever were negligent involved in anyone's death under the age of 56. I know that's not much of an accomplishment, but when you look at other schools(ok, just ND) they do it all the time.

I'm getting a little carried away, but I just had to get my bi-daily semi-annual ND bash in there. That's just how the world turns.

Thoughts?

A really good topic, sleeper, but you could have just stopped after the first two sentences. There are enough threads on this board that deteriorate into name calling.

But you are right about:
There's just something about the Scarlet, there's something about the gray, but when you mix the two and its a combination of both Scarlet and Gray, there's nothing better
It is best explained by our alma mater:

Summer's heat and winter's cold,
the seasons pass,
the years will roll,
Time and change will surely show,
How firm thy friendship...O-HI-O

College football brings us back to where we as adults started...back to one of the most influential times of our lives. It connects us to a broad family.

There are things that I don't like about the current state of college football as a game. But that is not the topic. There will be enough posters that will get this off track.

The allegiances, the traditions, and the pageantry.

There is nothing like being in Ohio Stadium on a crisp, sunny afternoon as the band makes its ramp entrance; the crowd clapping in time with the drummers, as the band members move fluidly out of the tunnel and onto the playing field.

Then the strains of Across the Field brings more than 100,000 to their feet as the band goes through its pre-game rituals.

It all culminates with the greatest tradition in college sports: the incomparable Script Ohio, which again brings the entire stadium to their feet, clapping in time as the bands men slowly spell out the name of this great state -- and culminating in a huge roar as the drum major leads a single tuba player in the dotting of the "i".

Even the most hardened of sports enthusiasts find themselves getting goose bumps when the first strains of Le Regiment begin...while those of us who love this state, the university and the program get a little overcome with emotion when a day of football concludes with the chimes of Carmen Ohio as the band serenades the team and fans just one more time.

Pro sports has never come close to emulating this or similar college traditions that live across the country.

Actually, it gets pretty annoying when you see the pros trying to borrow those traditions, like when the Browns play "Hang on Sloopy" at the end of the 3rd quarter during their games. I wouldn't mind it if it was just during "Battle of Ohio" games, but....

Cavs and Tribe do it as well...

It's obvious most people in Ohio ate Buckeye fans. It gets the people going.

Something every other NCAA sport has with one notable exception.

As far as the topic, it's going back to your school and remembering when you were a student. Sometimes just the memories are enough to sustain us.
