I have a hard time believing that any fighter takes an opponent lightly these days, everyone is so good and well rounded that it would be foolish to do so.

Rashad is cocky and I think he went in there thinking he was going to have an easier time with him and be able to knock him cause he was the champ.

So you believe Rashad is that dumb? Stupid enough to take an undefeated fighter, who had beat 3 or 4 top 10 guys by that point (and never really been close), lightly?

I just refuse to believe Rashad is a retard, because even back then, if he took Machida lightly he was retarded.

Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas. Sometimes the champ thinks he'll win because he's the champ.

Mike Tyson is not the best comparison if you are trying to prove Rashad is not stupid. Unless you are trying to say that he is?

Also, Rashad had 0 defenses at that point to fall back on and get complacent, he had just won the title from Forest. So the Tyson comparison doesn't work in that case either.

So do you believe he was really stupid enough to take Machida lightly?

He was the champ and undefeated - yes. He's a wrestler first and striker second, I haven't seen the fight in a while, but I don't remember him trying to take Machida down at all.

1. The fight wasn't that long, barely longer than 1 round.
2. They were clinched a few times, typically a wrestler uses the clinch to setup a TD doesn't he?
3. Machida has one of the best TD defenses in all of the UFC.
4. I would have loved to see Rashad go to his wrestling, but that doesn't prove that Rashad took him lightly. He was becoming overly confident in his striking after Sean Salmon and Forrest KOs and he figured he could KO Machida as well. Just because he had a terrible game plan doesn't mean he took Machida lightly.

Not too different really, thinking he didn't need to wrestle sounds a little cocky, like he took Machida's stand up lightly.

Or he was so confident/cocky in his own standup that he was mistakenly under the assumption he was as good in the standup as Machida.

Taking someone lightly means you don't train as hard or whatever, it does not mean you overconfident and had a bad gameplan.

He could have worked his tail off on all standup, that means he was serious, just incorrect in his assumptions.

Saw Man with the Iron Fists over the weekend and noticed Dave Bautista was in the film. Saw he had an MMA match, any word on his next fight?

Cung Le is in that as well. No word on whether he will fight again, he said he wanted to try it out and see how it went and would go from there.

Sorry, but taking someone lightly means you didn't train hard because you knew you'd win.

Being cocky in your standup doesn't necessarily mean you didn't train hard, you just thought you were better than you actually were.

I find it hard to believe that Rashad didn't train hard for Machida because he took him lightly, nothing more, nothing less.

I'm really surprised that the UFC would book Overeem vs Big Foot. A potential JDS vs Reem fight would be huge and the timing would work out after 155 if JDS beats Cain again in late December to do the fight in the spring of 2013.

ok con_alma, 6 of 1 half dozen of another. Training hard in one aspect is not taking someone lightly, it's only taking someone lightly if he didn't train hard in any aspect! derp.

Both fighters love it on the ground so it's a great match up. I bet people will be booing it though. Really hope Maia lands a submission on Fitch, never been a fan of his.

I think Condit's best shot is winning it early before GSP finds his rhythm. Other wise i think GSP by decision.
Pulling for Kampmann but i think Hendricks will get the win.
