Sonnen should not have thrown that, no reason to throw shit like that when he was winning at that point/the gameplan was working. Oh well, c'est la vie.

This. The friend I bet 20 bones with was complaining as soon as the fight was over. He had been talking so much shit about Sonnen stomping Silva that making excuses was his only defense. He wrote to me after the first round. Round 1 - Sonnen. I replied with fight - Silva and he was pissed. Ha

I am actually a Silva fan and at full speed I swore it was Illegal. Only on rewind and slow motion did I realize it hit the chest first. If the thigh would have hit the face a split second earlier it is an illegal knee.

Silva's knee was VERY close to being illegal - and this is coming from a Silva fan. At 1st glance, I actually thought it WAS illegal (and I think the referree did too as you can clearly see him rush in there like he was going to stop the fight, but thought better of it). After watching the .gif DeadliestWarrior supplied up above about 15x, I think anyone with knowledge of MMA would have to agree that the knee was in fact LEGAL(as it makes contact with the body first, not Chael's head).

Silva is just a freak-of-nature. That duck-and-roll was superb.

Everyone at the Bdubs I was at thought it was illegal, as did I.

Lackluster card last night IMO was hoping for some major fireworks in both the Tito/Forrest and Silva/Sonnen fights but to me they lacked. Oh well.

Agree real time I thought the knee was illegal until the replay, kudos to the ref for not stopping that as an illegal strike!

I only ordered the card for the main event - i was pretty happy when the mendes and maia fights ended so fast. I really thought after rd. 1 chael was going to get the win, but when he missed on two shots in round two you knew he was in trouble - when silva has the chance to finish, unlike chael who was in mount and did nothing. Silva is that good, we'll probably see him fight Jones, but I'm 100% pulling for Hendo to land that right hand and win the belt.

The knee was legal, barely, and it may not have been intended to be, but still legal.

What's more concerning is Silva's blatant attempt to grease(2nd time he's done it, did it before the Belfort fight too) and the grabbing of the shorts. Of course, he gives some little speech after he wins and all of a sudden people forgive all his atrocious behavior leading up to and during the fight. Standard Anderson Silva.

I'm just glad they caught him greasing this time.

But what does it matter? What's the incentive not to try? MMA is such a bizarre sport. You're basically allowed to break every rule once with no penalty. Grease, grab the shorts, gab the fence, poke the eyes, kick the groin, first time is a freebie.

Everyone knows the rules going in, if you break one, you're penalized. Why is that possibly not the way things work?

Did I miss something? Silva was caught greasing? When? I must have missed this (granted, I was at a very loud and ruckus bar).

Right before the ref brought them to the center of the octagon. The ref asked for a towel and wiped him off. It's the first time I have ever noticed him doing it. I didn't know he did it before the Belfort fight but I guess I wasn't paying much attention.

Nice to see the haters out in full force. Silva won. Enough excuses and complaining.

Haven't seen anyone do that. None of those actions had anything to do with why he won the fight. But for as much as he talks about respecting the sport, the belt, etc. I'm not sure blatantly trying to grease twice is the most honorable thing.

There are only two men outside of heavyweight that could beat Anderson Silva imo, neither of whom he will fight. One is one of his best friends, and the other is Jon Jones. After what I saw last night, I don't think GSP would have much of a shot really.

I just took a peak at 149's card. For some reason I thought I remembered it being pretty decent but I was wrong.

That card was loaded initially, but it has been decimated by injuries. Huge names and match ups dropped off of it.

I'm interested in watching Renan Barao and Hector Lombard because I have never watched either of them fight but other than that it's a tough buy.

Edit post: I guess I have watched Barao once. I just read that he fought Scott Jeorgensen (spelling?) at 143. I don't remember the fight.

Barao is a beast, he is as explosive as a Jose Aldo. Lombard has been steam rolling people, he is a world class judoka and has won 26 fights in a row. He obviously hasn't been facing the top level guys but he is a scary dude. Has anyone heard what happened with Dung Hyun Kim officially? I have heard broken ribs and a broken hip but I'm not sure.

It's about time for Chael to call Vinnie Mac I think. Not really sure where he goes from here as far as a UFC future goes after running his mouth for 2 years like that and then getting stopped in the 2nd round.

I'd love to see GSP and Silva fight, though I think Silva would win. He is just on another level

Lombard is suspect. He's never fought anyone even close to top level.
